Hi all- this post doesn’t have a deal link, but it’s a classic Amazon Warehouse story that I thought you might appreciate.
I’ve ordered the 49-piece Gearwrench 1/2” socket set twice in the past from Amazon Warehouse, without success. Both times it actually never even shipped, it just hung out for a few months in a “pending” state before being canceled and refunded.
But, third time’s the charm, so when it appeared again, I pulled the trigger again. The price wasn’t crazy cheap, but good value. Probably about $90. That was back in August or July, I think.
When it didn’t ship in the first week, I figured round three was gonna be the same slow boring story. But no! This time it’s a slow *exciting* story.
Last week the status changed to “shipped.” Sure enough, it arrived today. I opened it immediately. Wouldn’t that be just like Warehouse to neglect my first two orders and then send me something utterly destroyed on the third?
The packaging had me cautiously optimistic:
This is actually what they were supposed to send, right?
And it’s not even trashed!
Ok, one hinge is busted. That’s…it’s been through shipping three times at least, that’s fine. And they taped all the sockets down, nice touch. Maybe a little overkill but I don’t mind.
The tape came off pretty easily.
And i noticed…
All the other sockets are 12-point.
This one socket, in the 20mm slot, has no stamping anywhere, just the standard knurled grip for metric.
It appears to be smaller than the 19mm socket, but I haven’t measured.
That’s all! Now I have an unbranded irregular socket that managed to sneak out past the QC process. Thanks Amazon, for doing a pretty ok job in the end. Only took three tries over two years but I finally have this set in 1/4”, 3/8” and 1/2”, give or take.

So you have one "good" 6pt socket and the others are 12 pt "head rounding knuckle busters" ? Just kidding,
I think that there is a thread around about 6 vs 12 pt sockets, but all my 12pt sockets are in the not used drawer, I busted too many knuckles using 12pt sockets.

I know this is a little off topic - but I physically twitched seeing them use a pipe on a ratchet. Get a breaker bar! Those ratchets will break when you really yank on them.On the 12pt vs. 6pt socket topic, it's funny Andrew posted this video last night. Go to the 5:15 mark
I much prefer good 12 point sockets. If they are machined well they will not slip unless the bolt is already rounded. In that case a 6 point will slip too! (Been there, done that)

looks like this is shipped from a 3rd party and they don't have the best rating--some people are stating they only received one tote instead of a 6 pack, but i think it might be worth it to roll the dice and worst case get a refund and keep the single tote. will update once i see what they send and how they handle it.

You'll most likely receive a single tote. When Amazon directly fulfilled orders on these Akro-Mils ALCs they frequently price matched 3rd-party listing mistakes like this one. I filled an entire wall of my workshop with ALCs this way
