Picked up an old bandsaw today for a steal (100.00) but it needs to be restored. I spent some time trying to figure out what kind of pullys were originally on this thing. Im guess the one with an arm and a few steps for speed. I cant find anything like that for sale and i image it will be expensive if i do. Im considering just getting a treadmill motor and a vfd, as i will be using this on metal primarily. Anyway if anyone has some pictures of their or some info that would be greatly appreciated

That big pulley isn't factory. It looks like someone was trying to get the speed down enough to cut metal with an intermediate pulley setup . There was an optional slow speed gearbox for these, but yours didn't have one so it was for wood cutting only.

This is what i was thinking, have you ever seen the gearbox come up for sale separately? I have a feeling it will be a long shot and my best option is the diy path.

I have the 14" version of that from around 1937 or so, I bought it for my Dad in 1990 or so for $125. He gave it to me a few years ago.

That was a great score with the base, unfortunately you didn't get the gear box and pulley cover with that one. I used mine a lot today, started with some resawing this morning of some 6x12 Douglas Fir, and metal working this afternoon. They are really a great machine.

Watch Ebay, you might come up with the gearbox, or another complete machine, although it's unlikely it will be $100, but still worth it.

Thats a beauty, can you take some pictures of how the gear box and cover attach to the main casting. Im wondering what it would take to put it on mine if i ever come across one.
