I consider myself pretty knowledgeable on current NEC code, as I am preparing to take my master's license test very soon, but found myself in an interesting discussion with a coworker who is running a job I was helping at.
The issue they brought up was that there were several locations where I secured NMB cable with staples through the holes of truss gussets where the wire was running parallel with the truss and was being secured to the side of the web.
They said it was a "code violation " and that staples could be secured on either side of the metal gusset but not directly to the gusset.
I reviewed NEC 334 multiple times, especially 334.30 and was unable to come up with anywhere in current code that says that this is a violation. I understand their reasoning, citing that it has a higher potential for damage over time as the trusses shift and move, but do not see where it is directly prohibited from being done.
This is not to say that the AHJ / inspector might not allow it, but I wanted to pick the brains of the good sparkys of GarageJournal and see if I missed something in NEC that prohibits this?
I know that NMB cannot be run across the edges the gussets and pinch points of trusses, as this makes the NMB subject to damage, but have never had a problem with stapling to the truss gussets.
Would love to know peoples thoughts!
