The irony of this picture is not lost on me.

These payloaders are a pretty sweet units, I sure hope you can get time this winter to pull parts and get one or two of them running. Realistically, what's the minimum work you could do to get one of them operational? Not that you'd do that today, or next week, but perhaps in a month or so you could plan to work on it? With a set of forks, it could also be used in the yard for forklift duties, and you'd have some redundancy and backup as well.

Carry on with the dirt work, I do appreciate all the pictures you post showing everything. This dirt work should pay dividends for you come spring when everything is melting and thawing.

While I worked on the North Slope, Alaska, we used the wheel loader with bucket and rake to move snow, and with forks to load airplanes. Changing implements was easy, one hyd. switch in the cab. At home on my little JD 2305 I actually have to get off the seat and deal with a pip pin on each side of the bucket.
Strouty you're going to love life when you get one of the loaders going. Anyway with all this effort now, spring '23 is going to be really sweet for you.

Well it was bound to happen, something went wrong.

The loader is locked up tight and of course it is the heaviest one with loaded tires and extra counterweight, I had all I could do to turn it and drag it to there. I stopped because something is going to break and I don’t think it would be the loader. Both front and rear tires seem locked up, it is in neutral, but not sure if the would matter with the engine out. I took the bucket off the Mitsu so I can pick it up, but instead of dragging, the Mitsu gets stood on its nose, even using the blade to counteract does nothing. :(

I am going to try and get the loader rolling, the auction for the army truck ended, someone is coming to pick it up around noon today, so that will be one more thing out of the way. I really need to finish things up so I can get the equipment to the Hill before the snow hits us.

I’ve just developed a new drinking game based on this thread. Every time I read the three words “I hate snow” written by any poster here, I will drink a shot. I expect to be feeling no pain for most of the winter. :lol_hitti
If you really want to get hammered, use "I'm not ready for...", "I hope to be ready for....", "Will you be ready...." etc., and any euphemism. Let me help you.

Strouty, how much more until you're ready for the dreaded white stuff? How hard is it to pull the driveshafts?

I don’t know how hard it will be, hopefully not too bad, but it has to be done, today. If they won’t come out this morning, well I have a torch, so they will be out this morning. ;)

As for being ready, probably by 2025.

Another cold night, frost will be a lot thicker today and that means Snow may hang around if indeed we get it. Got my plow on so that should keep it away :)

I don’t want snow this year, is that OK?

I spent an hour cleaning and tinkering in new dual axle trailer. It needs some rust repairs, but doesn’t look like anything structural. I started removing the brake assemblies for the reels, they aren’t as heavy as they look, but the one with the hydraulic motor will need something more than my back to remove it.

And just so everyone knows, I wanted to use the lift arms to pick up the brake assemblies, but they won't clear the trailer fenders, I probably could have lifted the arms all the way, then put the trailer inside, would have been easier to back in too.

I am at the SG now, going to assess the loader driveshaft removal, just need to put on my coveralls, it is cold outside. :(

Well the bolts weren’t a big deal, but, do you think the splines will move? Let me give you a hint, two words, first starts with an f and rhymes with duck, the other is NO. I am digging out the torches and a bigger pry bar, the 42” didn’t do hardly anything.

I'd take a wire brush to the rust/dirt on the splines and then try to get some penetrating oil in there and follow that up with heat. From there, a BFH may do the trick.

Good luck.

I heated that yoke cherry red, I beat on it with a BFH, I used some kroil while hot and after, the grease was melting and leaking out everywhere, didn’t budge. I found if I contorted myself, I could squeeze in and pull the part off from the transmission. I am warming up the Mitsu now, the rear shaft is staying on, I don’t think it will come out since I can’t spin anything, it has no slip joint at all.

Well, that didn't work out at all. Clark is trapped by vehicles that won't start and the damn booster pack won't do it either. My jumper cables are in the Muv-All trailer and another set in the Blurb. I don't even have a big battery charger here to use as a booster. I really need to build a big battery cart, I waste more time on jumpstarting dead things than probably anything else (not really, but it feels like it right now). :(

ooops, the equipment tetris hit a log jam!!!

Needing to jump start equipment is a pain.... I have a few items that give me consternation. Altho I did just put a new battery in my forklift.....

Regardless, you are making some progress with the dirt! I think this has been a good project for you..... seems to be continuous progress.

With your inventory of vehicles, I would think a wheeled jump-start cart -- one with a big diesel-truck sized lead acid battery -- would be a must-have.

In the meantime, can you make do with a big battery from one of your trucks, ratchet strapped to a hand-truck (or on a 4-wheeler?) with a pair of good heavy gauge jumper cables?

I will most likely build two, one for the Hill as well. They sell them new for about $4k, I know I can make one for a much more reasonable cost, it will also be more durable and user friendly.

I am also going to make a torch cart that is more suited for off road usage, my current one will do it, but it is tough going through bumpy or soft stuff.

So many ideas, so many plans, not nearly enough time.
