Ran across a set of POP Multi Bits. Seven bits in a nice metal index. Made in USA with a lifetime guarantee. The little brochure claims the bits are good for just about everything as it has tips for drilling glass, tile, metals, and wood. The bits themselves look like black oxide versions of masonry bits with a sharper cutting edges on the tip. An internet search only revealed some Ebay listings for a set like the one I found and a Pop drill bit company that makes big bits for drilling wells.

I suspect this is just a gimmicky tool that didn't make too much headway in the market since I can find no trace of the company. Anybody here have any experience with this type of drill bit?

Happy Holidays!

They look like they're just carbide tipped drill bits. As such, they'll drill through stuff OK. The shape of the insert is a little steeper than most masonry bits, but not as steep as some bits designed for glass and ceramics. I don't think they're all that special, really.

I don't think the tips are carbide, they don't appear to be brazed on

Multi purpose drill bits are a somewhat standard item nowadays.
A company called “Artu” or “Artu USA” may be the oldest with the design, but the bits predate my decades ago venture into buying tools so I’m unsure.
The oldest Artu bits I’m familiar with were made in Denmark. I’m not sure were the bits are made now.
I don’t think the bits were ever made in the US.

Bad Dog Tools was the next brand I’m aware of that made multi purpose bits.
I believe there bits were/are also imports, but not sure were from.
Maybe they have the bits retipped in the USA, but am doubtful.
BDT at least offers a nice selection of sizes.

Bosch now offers the bits as well, as does the Austrian drill bit manufacturer Alpen, and likely other manufacturers.

Yes, the bits look like carbide tipped masonry bits, and that is presumably what the bits are.

The bits supposedly like high speed.
The bits will drill thru gardened steel like metal files, and brick, etc.
The main advantage is the multipurpose-bits are usually cheaper than the specialty bits specifically made for drilling hardened steel.

You can find videos online for the Artu, Bad Dog, and Bosch bits.
Maybe the Pop bits just used US made Masonry bits for the same thing, and it didn’t quite work out bussiness wise for some reason.

Thanks for that knowledge! I took a closer look at the bits with a magnifying glass and the cutting edges do appear to be brazed on.
