Does anybody still make a battery charger that's not computerized? My 40-year-old Sears one bit the dust. These new ones that are computerized will not charge a battery that's below a certain voltage. I need one that's just a transformer and rectifier- no computer

You may want to see what Clore has to offer. You'll find them @ Napa as well
  • Able to charge even zero volts (totally dead) batteries
  • Soft Start Mode for severely depleted batteries

I did not buy a HF charger because it said on the label that it would not charge gel or agm batteries. That one might suit your purposes. I got a late model Diehard charger which is computerized and is supposed to charge all batteries. I don't know about the low voltage situation, but it has charged batteries so far including one that would not make a sound with the starter.

Schumacher still makes simple chargers. I have a 10-30-200A charger that I like.

What is wrong with your current charger? I just repaired one for my dad that only needed a switch.

Several modern 'computerized' battery chargers are able to charge completely dead batteries, 0% charge . . .

-Clore Automotive
-Noco
-Optimate

To name a few

Associated still makes quality HD old school chargers, break out your wallet.

For a modern one that will fit in a big glovebox, look at NOCO. Plus they can actually bring back dead batteries with their "desulphate" mode. Ive recovered a couple

Associated also makes smart chargers (their Intellimatic line) with a dead battery override rocker. I just charged a battery last week with my Associated 9425, that was reading 2V open circuit. The override is a momentary rocker, and one touch started the recovery and charging process.

Nice. Associated makes quality stuff. I was unaware of their Intellimatic line and always think the 600x models when I think of Associated. My Grandfather had a old Associated in his Diesel shop back when I was a kid so I have lots of positive memories of the brand.

Thanksto this thread I just bought a Noco Genius10. I've got a truck with either a parasitic draw or bad cables and I'm gonna try and bring back two batteries from prettymuch dead 11.75v and 11.71v so I can hopefully start diagnosing. We shall see.
