What Would You Do With a Wireless Borescope?

What would you do with a wireless borescope similar to the one I mentioned on ToolGuyd last month?

First thing I'd do is look under the armoire in my parents' dining room. Then, I'd take a look behind my wall cabinet. Dropped something back there and can never see where it went, even with a mirror. Next, I'd check out the sink pipes to find a pesky blockage.

I have two race engines - a REGULAR thing I'd do would be cylinder inspections. And there's plenty of nooks, etc in this house that could use a look-see without sticking a head or hand in there...LOL.

When you first mentioned wireless I thought you meant that there was no wire between the screen and camera, and then I thought you could see exactly where you lost the camera and could never get to.

I'd poke a hole in the ceiling to try and figure out just what the critter is that likes to run back and forth over our bed in the winter. Sounds bigger than the usual field mice.

Ditto on that one. Perfect for giving it a look around on the inside of cylinders. Also one of the guys that i go to school with got one and used it to look around inside of a spar for corrosion and also was somewhat sucsesfull in doing a last stage turbine inspection on a md369 but I think its a soemwhat usefull tool. The screen is full color (altho a bit fuzzy and poor picture) but still not bad

You know, every guy makes the gynecology joke (and I do too, so this isn't a slam directed at you) but...

I worked in a hospital for 7 years and knew lots of docs.

One gyno, Dr. Overy (serious), told me one day after someone (probably me) made a similar joke, "Yeah, it's a fun job but you've got to look at a lot of skanky p*ssy to see the good ones."

I could use one to inspect my soffit vents from inside the attic. The roof angle makes this very difficult.

I have one, HF's badged version, purchased it to go through a spark plug boss to inspect piston, bore, etc. But, the head of it is too big "you can see the top of the piston though." I still have it; use it kinda often, it's cool.

I saw that Extech was giving away free extensions until July 31st with purchase of one of these units, and randomly thought about what I'd use it for.

I've seen the $99 Milwaukee one in person, and while it's decent, it's dated. Newer ones, such as the one by Extech and the upcoming one by Dewalt are brighter, provide better image quality, and can save photos/video to a microSD card.

I'm assuming you're talking about the end of the probe? It's about 5/16th.

Ah, thanks. I know that Extech and Dewalt's thin-bore extensions are 9mm. I thought that Snap-on's would be much smaller, but it's comparable at 8mm.

I cannot determine why Snap-on's is much more costlier than other models.

Industrial maintenance: Set it up to observe machinery that's impossible and/or unsafe to watch running. Reviewing the video frame by frame would be good for high speed stuff but I'd prefer more than 30fps for that. Would turn troubleshooting remote actuators and sensors into a 1 man job. Maybe use it to help aligning things by feel. Would be good for inspecting what osha calls confined spaces.

Automotive maybe you could zip tie it under the hood, or on the chassis, for road tests??

8mm will definitely go thru' a M10 spark plug hole. 9mm might not depending on what "9mm" actually is. Since M10 spark plug is probably the smallest automotive application SO wouldn't have any incentive to make it < 8mm. Smaller = $$$. The Extech 9mm is $50 more.
