And it can't be your co worker haha. most things I don't pay any mind too but when someone is going full career with the air grinder / cut off tool there's a point I gotta ask if there's a faster way to do it.

Sounds don't usually bother me as a result of their loudness, because I'm pretty religious when it comes to wearing my hearing protection, but there are a couple sounds that annoy me.

Someone drilling metal with a dull drill bit and no drilling lubricant. That squealing sound is impossible for me to ignore, and because the drill bit is dull it often lasts quite a long time. It annoys me because it feels like a warning alarm to the rest of the world that someone within earshot doesn't know what they are doing.

The second one only annoys me if I'm not wearing hearing protection, because it isn't usually a very loud sound. It's the sound of someone sliding something against foam board or a bladed knife cutting through any form of styrofoam or rigid foam insulation. That sound is like nails on a chalkboard to me and it literally makes my spine tingle about 60% of the time I hear it.

Lastly, that machine gun like sound you hear when driving a screw, the going gets tough, the driver bit strips out the head of the screw, and it takes a second or two for the driver to stop spinning. If "cringe" was a sound, that would be it.

I used to have sound annoyances, but after so many years working around jet engines the sounds just don’t bother me anymore.

I’d like to say I’m just used to annoying sounds now, but my audiologist would say otherwise 🤣

I’d say if I have to mention one though it’s people dragging pneumatic tools by the air hose across the floor.

Anything that's loud. Someone dropping any sort of clanging metal on the floor is pretty annoying. Also freely dropping jack stands when they're raised up. I can wear ear muff's for anything thats louder than talking.

No I thought of the most annoying thing, crappy radio station blasting the same songs every 15min.

I hate the sound of my air compressor enough that I bought a new small California Air Tools compressor for stuff that doesn't require a lot of air. It's barely louder than my airbrush compressor.

When I was working in the manufacturing plant ( metal fabrication/machinery), those damn, noisy ,irritating 'dynafiles' (handheld air powered mini belt sander) that the welders used. While not in the shop per se, but the shop bathroom with tile walls and floor, the maintenance guy working 5 feet away drives a lag bolt in with a big impact driver. It was painful enough to remember to this day.

The door from the house to the garage quietly closing is one of the most irritating sounds I experience on a regular basis.

Quite often, I'll be engrossed in something or other, not watching the door, and if my wife needs something, she will silently open the door and peek. Then, without speaking, she vanishes. Closing the door makes a soft "click", so I don't know she's there until she's gone.

Then, with a heavy sigh, my duty is to stop what I'm doing, clean the glue/paint/grease/oil/gasoline from my hands, figure out where she teleported to, and resolve the mystery.

All it would have taken was one soft spoken word, and ninety-nine times out of a hundred it was a small daily matter and I wouldn't have had to stop what I was doing.

It's the tiniest, tiniest thing, yet endlessly maddening.

The router on my CNC machine. A high pitch whine. Now I can wear hearing protection or use my noise canceling ear buds, but it is still bothersome. Next would be my old shop vac. Really loud. Once again hearing protection works well.

One of the shops I work at has a cnc wood cutter next door but the air compressor is next to where I work. It has a fancy drier/separator thingy that purges about out every 15 minutes or so. The compressor running all day is annoying by itself but purging drives me nuts.

Why do I find this hilarious and adorable.

Maybe because I'm not you.

How about sound and smell? Not a fart but, I work outside near the end of a runway of a international airport. The jets and prop engines are the worst. Then the smell of jet fuel follows.🥺

that ***** for you. I happen to love the smell of jet exhaust! It probably helps that I'm not exposed to it all the time.

The ping that comes from near your feet from the circlup that went flying, and is actually across the shop against the inside front tire of a car 6 stalls away... but you STILL know it has to be "right there"...
Crawling on all fours looking for it like it's a lost contact lens.

Modern country music.
My shop radio is on all the time even if I'm not in there. Due to where it is and the fact that it's in a giant metal box of a building the only classic country station that comes in is a ****** to get tuned in. The piece of coat hanger antenna needs to be just right up agains the conduit on the wall so it comes in clearly.

The other people in my life things it's hilarious to move something or flat out change the station to something else. Argh. Just about anything other than Bob FM up here in the Central MN area stinks in my opinion. New country is to much hip hop and old school hip hop isn't played anywhere anymore so back to good ol' Waylon, Jonny and George for me.

Leave my radio alone !!!!!

Best smell there is just short of race gas! I happen to be biased of course, but there's little better in life than the sound/smell of a line of aircraft firing up subsequently and proceeding to an elephant walk.

Race gas is okay. But jet fuel just smells like burning kerosene. And new car exhaust smells like mothballs for some reason.

Die grinder, air ratchet, air drill

Carbon Arc Gouging

And possibly the most annoying is a fault code alarm horn SCREAMING on a piece of Cat equipment. You’ll be trying to troubleshoot the fault with that thing going off at 80 decibels in your ear for hours on n end and it will drive you and anyone around crazy

Does Mexican radio count?
only if it's the narcocorrido songs, or the idiots playing it loud in traffic, or karaoke songs on Sabado Gigante, but El Chacal puts a stop to that sheet real quick

I hate weaksauce electric impacts rattling away with the pin/hammer impact mechanism.

I'd assume I've already lost the ability to hear the worst of the pneumatics. But I can still hear my buddies stupid midtorque struggle to remove lugnuts.

Temp swings in a metal pole barn. It sounds like it was raining sand every time I'd go out there and open the door. Like someone poured milk over a giant bowl of rice crispies...

It all stopped once I had the ceiling spray foamed.

Lol. So snooty. 😃

J/K all electric impacts to me sound like they're actively breaking apart when in operation, so I get it. The longer they hammer the cringier it gets.
