Hello, I am a garage noob looking for a toolbox since I need a 2nd one. I may have lucked out because today I found the attached top/bottom stack for $200 in my area. They didn't say it was SnapOn but it looks like it is (and not just a sticker) from the pics. Is this too good to be true? They said all the drawers work as they should, so the only way it wouldn't be worth $200 is if the drawers were damaged beyond repair right? But even then, doesn't SnapOn have a lifetime warranty? I'll have to drive an hour to get it.

FYI they are not including the side cabinet in the pic, just the top and bottom.

Is it worth 200 bucks to you, even if it isn't a Snap On is what you should be asking yourself. Will it work for you? If yes buy it. If no pass on it, even if it is a Snappy.

You won't get much in the way of a warranty on the box (and rightly so).

Legit Snap-On. Should be 1970's.... ish.

I have the same top box, and a variation of the roll cab from 1975. Mine was handed down to me by a good friend and mentor, so lots of sentimental value. I really like the form factor. They're fine boxes.... but not as nice as any modern box (even HF) with roller slides. Things were different back then. Definitely/easily worth $200. Functional, practical, and even collectable.

I don't believe Snap-On has parts for these anymore.

I never really considered the warranty on a used box, but I did without regret spend $50 and 20 minutes driving for the mid box that matches that top.

Keep telling the young guys that. It helps keep down the prices on friction slide boxes.

I do love friction slides, and I love the layout of that era of Snap-On tool boxes. I'd go as far as to say I prefer them over most modern offerings. They lasted if they were cared for.

Still, so many modern boxes are made out of heavier steel. You kinda wonder...

The fact that the boxes lasted this long is a testament unto itself. One has to wonder how well all these HF boxes (or even the new Craftsman or Husky) with their fancy 100lb roller bearing drawers will hold up in another 10 or 20 years. If just the bottom rolling cabinet was for sale near me for $200, I'd buy it.
