And to top off my afternoon, my GF calls me and tells me that the “No oil pressure, pull over safely” message came on. She said she pulled over, turned the car off, then restarted it and got the same message.

Wait for it, wait…..


Then she drove home. I am pretty sure the engine is junk now, I have not heard it in person, but over the phone things sounded really rough.

I don’t think I will be fixing it anytime soon, probably going to make her buy a new car, hopefully she at least learns from this. Or maybe even better, it will all be a simple issue and the car will be fixable, doubtful.

That reminds me of an old Tim Allen routine where his wife drove home the family car with an oil light on. When he asked her why she did such a dumb thing, she said "well i figured if it was really bad, it would start flashing or something..."

It seems like there is hope, no crazy noises, these engines are known to get the pickup screen plugged up, with the oil level so low, it would have been pulling from the crappy stuff. I am going to pull the pan and do a couple things before I deem it a lost cause. I have another oil pan already cleaned and ready just for this purpose, although it was supposed to be for a different car, but that one is gone anyways.

A bit of a mess, but the trailer is now in the other bay so the lift is available, used the lift to adjust the rear brakes on the Blurb, imagine that???

Anyways, tomorrow is going to be a long day, I can already tell.

The lack of coolant is making the process slow, been trying not to overheat things too badly. We are letting it cool for a while, but I think we can get everything done outside, fingers crossed. Last thing will be to move the steel inside, but I need these pieces of shelving to go outside on the racking, it will gain a lot of room.

Unfortunately the roof over the racks is way down on the priority list, it will get bumped to the front if we get snow between the racks and the building, until then it is what it is.

Hyster is back down to a manageable temp, going to shuffle a few more things, then get the red racking outside before it really starts to rain.

I didn’t get any final pics, it was raining and dark, but Friday it should be all cleaned up and ready for snow. I hope we only have to spend the morning there, that way I can get a few things done at the Hill too.

I am pretty much prepared for bad weather now. The Hill is a bit of a mess, but I have Clark there and should be able to get things handled in fairly short order.

I guess I missed one of the invoices for the gravel, we are totaled at $10.5k, so I have about $15k total into it, going to need another $10k in the spring/summer to get it finished. I will say it was already apparent, just driving the forklift around, it is nice and solid, not so flat yet, but very solid, will totally be worth the effort and money once it is done.

Crushed gravel is a grand thing. Solid in wet weather, near concrete in the dry. It ain't cheap. But, then you know that. Did you know that 2 gals of Portland and 5 gals of crusher run make great concrete? At least as tough as the bag mix.

I have to look at things long term, the gravel is definitely one of them. Once I have a functioning dump trailer for Perk, then I can bring it in as needed. I won’t be able to haul as much as a tri-axle, but it will be on my timeframe. This next round will still be using someone else to haul, I plan on hauling out all the sand with my equipment.

It is that wet cold, can’t get warm feeling outside right now. I did a walk around, trying to get my plan of attack figured out so I am not tripping over myself. The cable company finally put the line back up, so I now have full access at the bottom of the Hill. I just wish I had the Mitsu functioning, that would be nice, oh well.

I keep getting interrupted, waste oil furnace guys just showed up rather than calling, so I had to deal with that. The guy was nice enough, but told me a bunch of BS reasons why the second waste oil furnace was “junk” and I should just have them rebuild the entire thing. I asked him some questions and he gave some decent answers, so I think I have some direction. He at least admitted that the one I have that is “junk” is the best model to have. I think it will be fine, just going to take some time to get it functional.

Now I am close enough to full on the water tanks that I have to hang around so I don’t have an overflow. I am probably looking at 12:30 before I can do what I was trying to do at 11:30. Go figure.

The weather is going to flip tonight, so I probably won’t get anything done, already got the, we may have to reschedule call. I may just start digging things today. If it freezes up, there won’t be much digging by hand. I have some concrete blankets to lay out, but I am not convinced it will be enough. If I can dig and find the utility conduits, at least then we have the possibility of using the mini excavator for the rest of it.

Of course this screws up the rest of today and the weather is going to screw up all my plans for Friday. I can’t even tie, not even trying to win anymore, if I could just get a draw once in a while…….

I’m rather shocked you can hand dig in Maine…..in January!

Its kind of late in the winter to be digging. I;ve installed conduits in gas stations in every month of the year. Generally at this time of year the ground heater gets set up in the afternoon, run all night, taken done in the morning, do what you can do before it gets dark, set up the ground heater again and repeat until job is done. I haven’t even started digging, decided to do fifty things that needed to be done before dark, now I am working on moving things that will be a problem when it gets slippery. I feel like I have done a lot, but it sure looks like all I did was make more of a mess. I can’t find my trailer hitch, so now I have to go and take one off another truck, one that is hooked to a trailer.

I found the other hitch, way later, it was in the back of the Burb that had the trailer hooked to it, makes sense.

I also have stuffed a few more things in the Quonset hut, I think I can get a few more things in there if I shuffle just a bit more stuff around. I want to get a few of my things out, but I haven’t had time, next week will be cleaning week.

Went to bed last night with the local forecast ruining plans, now the local is saying exactly what my phone has been telling me for the last few days. I don’t know how those weather guessers can keep their jobs. Most local stations have several of them, they would be more accurate having a kid read what the iPhone says.

Up here deck is covered with ice, sleet falling at the moment but no big accumulation of ice on warm ground. Headed to Thomaston to look at a job, should be a slow ride down. I'm guessing it won't be so bad on way back?

Well, it is freezing rain now. Hopefully I can still get things done. First steps are set, next is to get the generator ready to roll and move it outside so that it can be hooked up temporarily. Perfect weather to be doing this in, we never lose power when there is freezing rain.

Here in Ohio, I think they try to scare the **** out of us every-time something starts working our way. Always warn of us what might happen, and how much rain/snow/wind we are going to get, THAT COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS!!!! And then hardly anything happens. They cry wolf way to many times!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately weather has changed into entertainment just like the news. Everyone on the news or television has to have their spotlight time. Weather storms are like a big ******. Sometimes they happen, other times they don't, and you never know when the storm is going to stop blowing.

Just got home the antenna on my truck is 3/4 of an inch in diameter. Ice is on the trees but not bad. Main roads are salted heavily, back roads I'd be leery of.
