Hi, i have only one water line that goes into the garage from the house. Can i make a ``Y`` between Hot and Cold to get a medium temp water in the garage instead of having only too hot or too cold water ??

Thanks to let me know.

You could but I'm not sure you would want to. Think through the back flow of cold and hot water through this Y connector and the need for one way checks in some cases. Have you considered a 'point of use' hot water heater?

Also, I am not sure how many feet of pipe going to your garage but if garage faucet will be far away from your water heater, it will waste a lot of hot water just to get it to the faucet.

The water heater just mentioned would be a better option.

You would need check valves in both lines to the mixer valve, and realize the time to get 'warm' water to the garage would probably be longer than you'd want to wait, and the losses of heat would be substantial!

But, a smaller cheap water heater would probably do just fine, and pay for itself in a few months.

I small point of use heater would work if it's just for a sink. I think that you could get one under $150. If you want to wash your car it will be too small. I purchased a 25 gal electric water heater & just turn it on when I want to wash a car. Takes about 20 minutes. I went 25 gal because thats the smallest that I could find with double elements.

I second, making the line into the garage a cold water line. I have cold water supplied into the garage, then a under counter point of use heater for washing hands in the winter, or warm water when needed.

I had mixing valves in a house, it was easy enough to do for the 2-3 times a year I wanted warm water outside, like washing the dog, filling a kiddie pool in the spring. If you really are going to only use it occasionally I'd say do it my man.

they also make small tankless water heaters too, if you have 220v nearby. only makes hot water on demand.

Mixing valves are common for toilets to cut down on condensation on the outside of the tank in humid climates. You could use one of these or simply make your own by using check valves and ball valves to control how much hot water flowing to your garage.

20 gallon hot water heater at Home Depot was $258.00 and runs on 110v. It fits under the counter next to the sink.
