Snap-On Rebuild and Kit Questions

I have two ratchets I am attempting to rebuild: my F-710A inherited from my grandpa and my father's FV71. I see from other threads that the FV71 is a military piece my father most likely picked up in the Air Force and that specific parts are not available, but the civilian counterparts will work. My questions are:

1) How is the selector secured to the ratchet? The FV71 has jetisoned its selector, but nothing "broke". Is it staked? If I can buy another from Snap-On and secure it to the ratchet, it will be good as new.

2) What all is included in Snap-On's service kits? Looking at my F-710A, the service kit is $10 whereas just the gear is $11.80. That doesn't make sense to me. I did notice some pictures show the gear looks black while mine look at least partially chrome/polished. What gives?

The repair kit contains the gear, pawl, spring with ball attached, reverse lever and pin. The reverse lever is secured to the ratchet by an aluminum pin. The pin is initially longer than the depth of the ratchet. You tap the end of the pin with a hammer on a vise which flares out the end of the pin holding it to the ratchet.

I will not even attempt to explain Snap-on's pricing methods on individual parts vs. the entire repair kit.

I have never seen a chrome/polished gear. All the ones in the repair kits are black.

Placed my order last night. Oddly enough, both ratchets take the same kit. My F710A is a 1953 vintage whereas Dad's FV71 is more likely late 60's early 70's (when he was in the service). I'm looking forward to rebuilding both. I think Dad will flip when he sees that I've fixed it to where he can use it again.

The kits also came with screws and a bushing. I rebuilt both today. I was SORELY disappointed with the kit. I understand that the FV71 was sort of gamble in that Snap On doesn't directly offer parts for it. But the RKRA380 kit was specifically listed for my F710A on their website. Both kits came with a pawl that had the square drive for the selector offset (axially) from the original. So instead of the selector sitting on the ON or the OFF, it wouldn't make it all the way over to the OFF, but would swing past the ON and over onto the shoulder of the ratchet. In both cases, I used the old pawls as, fortunately, they were still in good shape. They're both together and work, but I expected better from Snap On.
