I would consider New Britain as a possibility for those sockets.
EDIT - Like Don, my first thought about the bracketing dots is SK, but the other details (form, font, knurl) all point to Duro/Indestro. It’s the dashed fractions that made me think of NB, but there are examples of that from D/I, plus the NBs I’ve seen have “Made in USA” stacked to the right of the fraction.
…Those dots, though…can’t recall seeing the “colons” at all.

@Old Radar - yes, your socket set is a 360 Indestro. As I recall, the older ones are not marked with a part number on the handle.

I would consider NB a possible candidate on the sockets, notwithstanding the single dimple. Something about that cross-hatch and the finish. :dunno:

Shiftless emailed me about an estate sale a few blocks from home that was featuring plenty of tools. My regular co-pilot was sleeping in so I was on my own. I found some interesting items and the prices weren’t too bad.

Don, is that a Plvmb/Proto wood handled stubby I spy?

Those 15" auto wrenches are big, - I have a Billings and Spenser 15, but I also have a massive 18" Diamond. That one is so big it hangs on a powerful magnet on the side of my big Matco.

I managed to find one sale worth driving to, a moving sale so a very mixed bag. almost no tools but he ahd a pedal boat I wanted to see but more $$ then I was willing to part with. I did find a few TOO's; only one produced.

What I did come away with for a $20 bill:

Knives - Western Hunting, Imperial. Folding Fishing, a toy Katana, Fruit - shears, surgical, scissors, a beat Mitchell 308, this is for a part I need and hopefully the gears are good, for a friend.

Knives Scissors308.jpg

Sausage roll cooker, Pinto Chiltons, The Pinto book for the memories - I had a 71 2 door coupe and a 74 wagon. I'd love to find a 71-73 wagon, but very unlikely. 74-77 they got heavy adn engines I don't like. the 1600 is an awesome engine in its class (same engine as used in Formula Ford racing)

Chiltons, Sausage cooker.jpg
Cooker.jpg

Motors manuals 57 & 65 for the collection, fair shape,

Motors 57 65.jpg

Butterfly tray, SWMBO loves the tray, not the butterfly's, but I got it for my oldest daughter who has asked me to watch for butterfly's.

Buterfly tray.jpg

And from a TOO for free, 9 mini cloths pins that will go into the overnight/weekend camp gear. They had a good sized box adn wanted $5 for the box but when I said only a few, she said to just take them. 20/20 hindsight, I should have taken the red or orange ones in case I drop them...

The stubby driver is Proto LA. It‘s currently partially submerged in the evaporust. That is actually the second one of the FSN auto wrenches I’ve found. We found one at a Tahoe thrift store some time back.

Something told me to go to the flea market this morning. It was the perfect cool, overcast day for the flea. I left quite satisfied with my finds.

We checked out a Kensington estate sale this afternoon and found a few items. The wiper blade is already on my wife’s car. 1C706F5E-9EB5-4B3D-8143-F2C8BF79D0A7.jpegWe made another visit to the estate sale from this morning and found a few more items. I was hoping that the prices had been reduced but I guess that we were a little too early.03586DF6-467E-4AC6-9151-E9636F150A63.jpeg
My wife grabbed the scissores along with a couple of other items.

I grabbed this Reed 204R today on CL for $125. All original and in nice condition. I don't know a ton about vises and I'm not sure it's a steal at that price but a good deal in my opinion. He also had a nice Versa Vise in all original condition for $100 but I left it there.

The little 5-inch bicycle wrench stamped "U.S." inside the diamond is Peter Lowentraut.

Is there anything stamped on the other side of the "Taparia" adjustable wrench? COO? Italy? Spain? Brazil?

What I like these for is fishing. If they go overboard, they usually float.
I like the butterfly display.

And just to elaborate on 4.c's info, that is not actually a COO in a diamond, they trademarked it! How, I'll never understand. Used it on ice skates, too. We have a thread.

Nice scores 3bay, always like seeing metric stuff getting picked up. $15 for what looks to be a full set of Cornwell metric impacts gets a you ****! (y)

The baby/Toy Katana is very small; 3" blade 1/4" wide, but I'm rethinking my "utensil roll" I use for camping and for when I used to still go into the office for lunches (completely remote now), and I'm thinking I'll put a good edge on it and use it as a "steak knife" Just because! More useful than as a letter opener!

Well done for $20. The Western knife alone is worth it. I like the butterfly display. (y)

Thx 3bay! Yep and the Western knife cleaned up pretty nice.

For the butterfly display try, SWMBO, as I mentioned, loved the tray frame. but the butterfly's she was like "Ew, dead bugs!"; but after sitting on the kitchen table all day, they have grown on her as they are so well preserved and beautiful. So the verdict is get new glass, I'll carefully remove the back, then lift the frame and glass off, and then lay the new glass and frame. and reattach the back.

Woke up excited, first carboot sale in two months, arrived reasonably early, and less than an hour later I'm sitting in a cafe eating breakfast. Picked up nothing at all, I'm more careful about what I pickup these days, but nothing....
☹️
Next month will be better, hopefully.

Better luck with next month LostBoy.

Fourcycle and Lugz, somehow I knew the two of you would be able to tell me about that small wrench. I didn’t realize it was Lowentraut, though I‘m quite familiar with their large brace wrenches. In fact, a local antique dealer had one (half of one) on his wall for a long time. I never asked him about it because his prices are off the wall. I will attempt to clean this guy up a little more before joining my other bicycle wrenches.

Flyer- when I heard the price on the Cornwell metric set I couldn’t pull out the money quick enough for the day’s first purchase. I wasn’t surprised though because the seller is super reasonable. It‘s 8mm to 19mm. Still has a Cornwell sticker on the bottom of the rail.

Outlaw- Mom and I enjoyed the butterly and other insect exhibits at the Buffalo Museum of Science. It was always impressive. One time I went there and there was a team in the lab room working on the specimen as people were passing through, so a lot of the displays were down, and a lot of pins and specimen everywhere on tables. That was different to see.

Decent haul (Lugz 2023_04) from the flea this morning.

2023_04.jpg

Top to Bottom:

Penn Reels wrench, FREY CO NY matrushka drivers (2 of 4, but I never leave them behind no matter what because I have enough partials to make a few completes), Sears, Roebuck & Co MERIT obstruction wrench, TBD pear or sharp pattern DOE, Diamond Calk crate opener (for a change, 9 out of 10 times they're BHM), Lectrolite DBE, Plvmb 3/8-inch drive extension, TBD French pliers, and - quite literally! - a pen knife.

I hit up the first swap meet of the year for myself. It was a cold 29 degrees standing in the parking lot for 1/2 hour waiting for the gates to open at 8am. Not a huge “you ****” haul but I still found some things I was pleased to find!

Starting from the upper left

Craftsman long c extension and various 1/2 drive sockets. Some are the earlier hyphenated size type and some are the more common slash/fractions size

Snappy- 5/16 wrench, 3/8 f10-hg hinge handle, shorty 3/4 wrench

20 60’s vintage hot rod magazines for $20

Proto-
Mfd era sockets, Allen sockets and 24 water pump pliers
Proto la- tappet, sockets and a 5450 1/2 drive long handle ratchet. Slight owner marks but all in all pretty decent shape. $25 for the ratchet
Modern era- various asd standard combo wrenches

Plomb-
1125 and. 1134 dbe’s

Husky USA- Allen and torx sockets

Also got this really cool Mobil glass car wash bottle. The logo was so nice I couldn’t leave it for $5

Finally on the board this year. Don't think I have gotten anything since before Thanksgiving (but at least that was a huge haul).

$30 for Whistler Camera Borescope (Costco Version) off of Craigslist
This one comes with the 3ft extension, so 6ft overall, and has all three attachments. From what I can find, it was a 150-200$ camera when new.

This is something I keep meaning to buy, and would have helped me a day or two ago on a project. Sure I will find tons of uses now that I have one.

I was informed by the wife that we would be spending the weekend out of town, so on Friday morning I made a feeble attempt to hit as many interesting sales as possible within my time limit. I made it to four of them, and in every case I was disappointed. Dealing with ***** drivers, ***** sellers, I came across exactly one thing to bring home, the saw blade holder shown bellow. But! When I got home, I found two sales online still going Sunday afternoon. And so, off I went.
52656902467_706079d78c_c.jpg
The first sale was a family run affair of a woman who had lived in the same house for 60+ years. Not much in the way of tools, but there was a level of family history that was hard to ignore. Here I found the Select Steel combo and Wizard 1/4 drive ratchet. The other sale was a professional farm sale, and all I can really say is that I wish I could have been there when it opened. But alas. Anyhow, there I found some vintage ignition wrenches, KAL palm ratchet, Challenger deep socket, Millers Falls driver, unmarked awl, and (sharp!) barbers scissors. Oh, and the wrench in the left bottom corner is a Plomb WF. Like I said, I would have loved to see the selection of tools on the first day.

But, at least I was consoled by the view from our rental:

Sorry I forgot to answer your question earlier. There is no COO on it. Apparently they’re made in India as per what’s on the web. There‘s a lot of info directly on their site. I thought they looked similar to Bahco.

Slow day at the flea this past weekend, for me, as far as tools. VERY good day for militaria. Only really good prices were on the blanket and the pants.

Craftsman 3/8 dr. socket rack, with 12 clips
World War 2 vintage GI blanket. A couple corners cut off.
Modern GI pants, which fit.
4 different Vietnam (68-70) jackets. Only one with insignia is the OD one on top. Both camo ones fit, but the ML is better than the LS. Hallelujah! The other OD is a MR.
1980 dated USAF field jacket, in pristine condition, with SAC and a refueling squadron insignia. MR size. OR, this has your name on it :)

Stopped at a garage sale today and picked up this (S-Curve?) Wrench. The only marking that I can see on this is that raised "X". Does anyone recognize this marking? There's no distinguishable markings that I can find on the wrench heads.

X? No clue, raised or otherwise. Oddly a double-open end, shaped that way. Both ends same size?
That's bent differently than common S wrenches, betting it's proprietary, or owner altered, at MidNite Auto School of Engineering
Real S (Generator- Starter) wrenches are curved and box-end to maximize swing needed to bite next flat of a hex; 6 point wrench 30°, 12 point 15°, in a radius just larger than shell of average stator case.
Sort-of reasoning behind flare nut wrenches being so short, barely enough for leverage, the hardware is in tight areas.

This wrench doesn't reach (speculating) around but into a recess, like a manifold.
There are standard SAE, AN-NAS, MIL, Bu-Ships, NMTS openings and pockets to allow intended wrench access. Tool manufacturers use in designing

Haven’t had a lot of time to post some of my picks, but last week I went and visited a fellow GJ tool hoarder. I took 2 medium sized totes full of trade bait. Had a great visit even though he was a bit under the weather (hope you’re feeling better Phil).

He picked my totes while I picked his empire. I left one tote full of his choice and came home with one of my totes plus what I picked.

Got some really great wartime era Snap on to put in my collection and a Bonney and Blue Point pieces. I left some Bonney, Blackhawk, SK, and some other miscellaneous items with him. Like the best trades, both of us were happy.

I still need to do some gentle cleaning to see exactly what I have, but I’m well on my way to a couple sets with some kickers. 4C067B8B-21C7-46C4-8B68-03F60476BAC5.jpeg

Yes oddly enough. 15/16 on both ends.

Thank you for the insight, Toolmaker! Makes me happy to come out richer in knowledge than in the wallet when it comes to tools.

With the square bottom, I’d assume it was either machine specific for square bolt heads (metal lathe tool holder settings) or designed for square near set screws.

You and any reader are Welcome; just rewards of efforts doing my best.
Now the same openings size poses a detail, they appear angled differently, perhaps adding [or subtracting] 5 to 7 degrees.
In a small opening, that's inadequate for a square head with 90 degree faces.

I believe possibly set-screws too, backing off just enough to rotate a hub to alter timing etc. But would have to be a button between shaft and screw to prevent marring. Any scar would drag and make that difficult.
Otherwise, a square nut or bolt and a split hub, is possible. Square headed hardware was common on agricultural equipment, structural members yaddy-yaa, as they weather better. A rusty hex rounds off too easily.
We had a run of roughly associated fasteners. Had to reset all the threading tolerances from 2A to 1. Good threads are 2 and 3 like Gr5 and up, #1 we called 'Spin on - Fall off'. Actual intent of #1 Ag fasteners is to rust in place. It's theorized rust is up to 7x volume of virgin steel...

From a $5 box of auction stuff:
Herbrand J-124 socket,
Bonney RF45 wrench. Ford A/C work, maybe?
