Best practices for marking wires?

Quick and easy one; I used 10/2 BX for a water heater connection. It's a 240 circuit so black & red are used (it's a 10/3 feed, neutral is capped). For marking the white wire that's now being used on the 'other' leg do I need to do anything more than wrap red tape on both ends?

Tape is the fastest and easiest and is what I normally use. When I remember to grab them off my truck, I have jumbo markers in black, red, and blue with a hole drilled through the tip of each. I can slide them over a #14 or #12 and mark the entire wire back to the jacket. I need to drill a little larger hole for it to work with #10.

The hole in the marker is a great idea...

Do you have any problems getting the permanent marker dry?
Every wire I marked on THHN, the ink never dried completely.
I haven't noticed anything on my hands after about 15 seconds. I mark the wire as soon as all of the jacket comes off so the ink can dry while I make up the grounds and neutrals. Maybe it's the markers? I'll check what kind I have and report back later.

I lied. Only the red and blue have the holes drilled in them, so I can only comment on them. Those are Pilot Jumbos.

The black is a Markall Duraink. Since there is no hole drilled in it, I can't comment on the performance. Maybe I had on and have lost it?
