I think she used it to distract me from bothering her in the kitchen.

It's called the Droste effect, if anyone wants to look into it further (see what I did there?), because of a brand of Dutch cocoa, and was picked up on and used often by M.C. Escher, the Dutch artist. Mathematically, it's an illustration of recursiveness.

Best example I know of, or at least the one I am most familiar with from my youth (other than learning about it more academically later) is the cover to Pink Floyd's Ummagumma LP.
