Your experience with Nat. Gas or Trifuel portable generators

I've got a natural gas standby also. 14kw generac. I wish i had it before hurricance sandy, but i installed it a year later. Hindsight is 20/20. It's been great, starts weekly, runs great in the rare occasion it needs to. Very hands off aside from maintenance. I self installed too.

Check out central maine diesel. They have some Honda units fitted for natural gas, in a portable form.

    Standby generator, whose got one.

Nice! Happy to report that my 14kw set tests and runs when it should, and two power outages later carried the whole house like the utility was still there. Well worth the time and cost, and i did it DIY.

    Standby generator, whose got one.

I had to upgrade my meter to run the gen set. Not for pressure, pressure was fine, but for volume. If all of my appliances were running I would draw the rated volume of the meter (250k but +/-). It would flow more but at a pressure drop. Gas company installed a meter that flowed 800k btu/hr and...

the honda sounds like a nice unit. it's unfortunate your couldn't fab something to make it start on power loss. is it pull start or electronic?

    Standby generator, whose got one.

This is true. But from what I read while researching which standby unit to buy, I found that the engine that generac uses to power my 14kw standby unit and the 17kw unit are widely used in mud boats, abused daily and ask for more. I agree with the 1800rpm setups being quieter and more fuel...

    Standby generator, whose got one.

I ran a natural gas setup. It's at the end of my backyard, about 90 feet from the meter. While i was at it I added natural gas to my grill. I do not live in a flood zone, not even close, and have not gotten any water in the 5 years i've lived here. I did it mainly because my job does not...

    Natural Gas pipe sizing

If this is any gauge for you, adding on to what the Texas gas man said: I ran 1 1/4 yellow gas line from my meter to my 14 kw standby generator, and that run is about 110 ft from my meter. The generator set can pull about 200k btu/hr when loaded down, and I've purposely loaded it down and my...

    INVERTERS/ and power cords

just to add on, I alslo went for a solid 14 days without power through Hurricane Sandy (NJ). Between the time after the storm and now, i've self installed a 14kw standby gen and its works like a charm. I'm into it for about $4500.
