Old guy gave me some stuff

'and I think of him often, specially when I use his tools.' That's exactly why I treasure the old tools I have of my Grandad's and Dad's and love to use them. Both of them were craftsmen in their own ways and anytime I feel tempted to do something 'halfast', I think of them and do it right...

    Craftsman Clear Handles

Another thing is the 'no question' lifetime guarantee. I'd suggest that if you have any broken/worn out Craftsman hand tools you should get them replaced soon.

    Truss Design

'As an Architectural designer I never needed OR wanted to do all the work necessary to design a truss. And we always used trusses, partly because designing joist and rafter and the connections was a pain. And the truss mfg., and their engineers take all the liability.' Same here. As a Civil...

Air compressor slow fill up, and filter questions

As for general use around a residence, a 25 gallon compressor like my 'old faithful' Sears is good enough.

Tire Pressure Gauge for Calcium Filled Tires

NAPA has a spring-loaded tractor tire gauge. I use it for my car/truck tires because of the low range. Why have a 150 psi gauge for 33 psi tires? It appears to have the same accuracy as several digitals I have.

    Craftsman Clear Handles

Well, that settles it. The American tradition of Craftsman tools is over, so preserve what you have. It was fun while it lasted.

    Cordless Drill/Drivers

Long story short; had a Kawasaki drill that burned up on me after about 3 uses - into the trash can. Got a Hitachi 18V and used it a few times, good drill. Also had a B&D cordless recip-saw and was gearing up for a project and found it wouldn't take a charge. Into the trash can. I got on Amazon...

    Craftsman Clear Handles

Yep, here's the 'Big Daddy'. Almost ruined it jumping the starter on a 1978 Pontiac Sunbird Formula. Had to carefully re-shape the bit after a little impromptu arc welding. Most of these are the Craftsman 'clear' with some mutts and Stanleys mixed in and one Kobalt dual-action. The long skinny...

    Grease gun storage ideas

I fold a paper towel and rubber-band it on the nozzle. I strap the hose to the body with a Velcro tie and just lay the thing on a shelf. At this point I don't have a single grease fitting on the place but I'm getting a small riding mower soon so it probably has some.

    Lawnmower (Push) Blade Length

Lawnmower decks and blades are not standardized which is another way of trying to make you buy a certain blade rather than a generic. 21" blades go about from 20.5" to 21.0" with most being around 20.8". With a 'short' blade you're okay as long as the end gap is not too big but you have to check...

Congrats on winning the wrench! I'd love to have one of those.

    Drill and Saw Lubrication?

    Thanks, guys. Good stuff.

    Drill and Saw Lubrication?

I have an old Craftsman plug-in 3/8" drill and 7" circular saw. The drill is over 40 and the saw is over 30 years old. I bought both new and they have had very light use. They both work fine. I'm just wondering if there is supposed to be grease in the gear cases for them, particularly the saw...
