Screw tips for impact driver and 3” drywall screws?

Phillips are really only good for drywall. Robertson has 4 different size heads for just about any job requirement. I find that most things built here use Robbie screws, if it has Phillips it probably came from the States. Almost like American companies shun Robbie screws because they were...

New build. What am I forgetting?

Door size and garage length is something that you really need to be sure of. If either are too small for your purpose it will aggravate you everytime you use it. I'm starting construction of a 30' deep x 32' wide x 12.5' tall detached garage today! I started out with 24'x24' and reviewed my...

    Condenser Unit Noise

Sometimes a balance weight on the fan blade can move or fall off completely. I would check this first. Maybe assembly screws or compressor bolts have become loose and you're getting rattles now. I have found rattles from the fan cage where it touches the casing. It's annoying I know. Good luck.

    wiring a condensate pump

Be cautious using the safety switch. It can prevent water damage which is good, but when used on the R wire it will shut off your furnace which could lead to frozen pipes if you were away in the winter. I suggest using the safety switch when water damage is unacceptable and your house is...

Interior gas line re-piping- Material options, new vs old. Lets chat!

Easy access makes black iron the best choice. Soft copper is good (with the proper protection)for smaller runs like dryers, bbqs and fireplaces. Make sure to use the proper pipe dope, pressure test and have a gas tech check your work. There may be specific code requirements for your...

Advice needed on a vintage chain sprocket

I have worked on older belt drive sheaves that have a somewhat hidden taper lock. You need to see if there are any "unused" threaded holes in it, thread in a couple of appropriate bolts to disengage the taper lock. Sometimes even the grub screws are used for this. It usually is fairly easy to...

    Grinding concrete

What's up with the telephone pole so close to the lift? Dosen't it interfere? To fix the floor I would use a concrete diamond cup. Gently Bentley is the rule of the day.

    "finished" the honey-do list

My honey do list will never end either. Started with a total tear out and rebuild the basement with a new bathroom, tv/home theatre room and family/rec room. Then it was replace all the windows and doors throughout the house. Then it was adding a door from the house into to the attached...

    Subpanel help

You might find that the one for the gas line doesn't get used. I am a gas fitter and generally prefer to go direct burial and not through a conduit with gas piping to detached structures. Mainly because I know it won't be damaged by someone in the future trying to feed something else in with...

How did you decide how tall to make your garage?

I'm going through with a couple of variances right now for my new detached shop. The variances are for square footage(max 538sqft) and for a second driveway(only one driveway allowed per residential lot). My shop plan has 12'6" ceiling height only because I will be installing a lift at some...

    Harbor Freight Daytona Dolly

Doesn't look like there are any hydraulics there. More like strong arm the rollers together to lift the car so you won't have a problem with hydraulics. I am looking at some dollies as well but just the bent plate type at Princess Auto. I like the design of the ones you posted better if they...
