    Level garage door

I have a 10' x 16 (450lb) garage door and put in new torsion springs. There is 3/4" gap at bottom on left side (floor is level). The torsion shaft is a Key way type so the cable drum has a key in it. Watched several youtube videos on how to level it but not real clear to me. 1. Take a couple...

How to connect two garage door 1" keyed shafts with a coupler

I'm putting together 2 solid shafts (8' each) together with a cast iron coupler. When I took it apart, each side (shaft) had 1/4" key going into the coupler. I'm wondering if I can use 1 key to span both shafts, wouldn't it be stronger, since it wouldn't allow any twisting of the shafts...

What type of center bracket for my garage door

Thanks for the reply, found some online that should work, but still wonder do the torsion springs bolt through each other with the bracket in-between them? Like a baloney sandwich, the springs are the bread, the baloney is the center bracket and the bolts hold them together? Thanks, MJ

What type of center bracket for my garage door

I have a 16' x 10' 450 lb door. I have the drums/cables/shaft (single) 1" hollow 14Gauge/T springs (2)/ and end brackets, but no center bracket. What type of center bracket should I use? Do the springs bolt through the center bracket and each other? Any links would also be helpful. I live in...

    Opener for heavy door

I'm updating a beat up garage door (door panels are fine, it's everything else). Original size was 16' x 12' and I'm resizing to 16' x 10'. Took of Torsion springs and shaft and horizontal track. Replacing them, panels are 90 lbs a section/450 lb door. The springs are being made for the...

Screw Sizes for 14 gauge hinges

Thanks for the replies. I measured the old screws with a caliper, they are 1/4". I discovered 1/4" comes with different head sizes. The ones I took off were 7/16" head. I wanted to stay with the same head size, so if I ever had to take them off again I wouldn't have to keep switching...

Screw Sizes for 14 gauge hinges

Screw Sizes for 14 gauge garage door hinges I'm need screws with washer heads for 14 gauge garage door hinges. The hinges I'm replacing all use a 7/16 socket, but some don't have the washer heads. Went to the hardware store and they don't have that size. Guy at the hardware store says use...

    #1, #2, #3 hinges

This forum is awesome! Thanks, I've been doing searches online trying to figure out the hinge thing and now get it after one post here. All I've seen is #1,2,3 hinges in the hardware store/Menards so assumed there were no #4,5,6 hinges and each panel used either a 1/2/3 all the way up. What...

    #1, #2, #3 hinges

Sorry, I'm trying to wrap my head around this. My hardware store has 3 types of hinges stamped with a #1, #2, #3 and he said the #1 goes at the bottom and on up. I'm guessing because of the size 12x16 it's a commercial door. So I Googled commercial doors and ended up with some articles about...

    #1, #2, #3 hinges

Moved into a fixer upper, garage door is 12' X 16' with 6 panels (2'). All the hinges next to the track are #1, some bent, one broken. I want to replace them but the diagrams I see are for smaller doors. From the bottom up, which panels will be number 1, which number 2, and which number 3...
