Check/Crack in 6x6 wood column supporting large glu-lam

I haven't seen anybody flexing lumber before grading lumber in any YT video. As a side bar, the wooden scaffold planks could be evaluated before service by blocking them a few inches off the ground and jumping in the middle; if cracking was heard, flip it over an try that way. Then the up side...

What's the deal with Whole Home Surge Protectors?

Hey had friend who home had a surge from lightning (not sure if it was direct hit) that fried the only TV that wasn't protected. Got me thinking about a whole home surge protector. Well, we all can dream but it likely isn't going to happen, at least any time soon. And most arresters don't pull...

What's the deal with Whole Home Surge Protectors?

I'd rather have the power company do the arresting; they are better equipped with bigger wires and better grounds. As a consumer, my problem should be a sag as their arrestor works.

Delta bandsaw- worth it? (Picture inside)

Lets see..... can be broken down to move with a single person and take home. Blades are plentiful and reasonable, commonly powered by a household outlet and pretty bulletproof. Unless it was used as a stop block for a bulldozer, how else are you going to build an Adirondack chair?

Compressor Start/Stop for an Eaton Magnetic Starter

It’s control wiring that is why it does is 16 AWG unless the manufacturer supplied a control transformer you have line voltage control which I assume is 240V, you are breaking one leg of 240V. No, you are breaking the operation of the mag coil across the poles of the 240v. It conducts pole to...

Air handler running, compressor not (until thermostat reset)

Disconnect the condensing unit from 240VAC. Apply compressed air to the control board until clean. Find input from the temp sensor and work it on and off the connector a couple of times. Push the reset on the low pressure switch for good luck. If it once worked, it might work again. Turn...

Ecobee 3 - Eco Settings Issue

66 sounds like a heat setback setting. Does the device know it's in FL on AC? Do you have a time-of-day savings on your electric? "Dumping money"? When the outside unit shuts off, you're saving money.

Intermatic time switch: mechanical vs electronic

Should have been a bit clearer ..... I'm talking about this type. My new house has various outdoor lights. I put a timer in the mechanical room and it feeds a 4/5 gang box with individual switches/ dimmers to feed the lighting. I prefer layered lighting outside -- Some will go on all the...
