Surface mounting LED High Bay lights from Menards

Hi Guys, Thanks for the feedback. I don't have any experience with LED light fixtures so I wasn't sure if the "do not surface mount" was driven more by the high bay lighting classification category or by an actual "gets too hot" issue. Sounds like overheating is the #1 concern. The aesthetic...

Surface mounting LED High Bay lights from Menards

Hi Guys, I found these high bay LED lights at Menards that I really like their 15,000 lumen output and their looks. But, the box says not to surface mount. I am contemplating just buying them anyway, drill holes through the sheet metal, and attach them directly to the rafters of of my...

    LED High-Output Canopy Lights

Hi Guys, E-conolight.com has these LED high-output canopy lights on their website. They look pretty nice but I am not technically savvy enough to know if they would be good to use in my garage. Other than cost, do you see any down-side to flush mounting these to my 11.5 ft garage ceiling? I...

Does heated garage need vapor barrier?

Hi Guys, Thanks for the advice. This house is in Cedar Rapids Iowa. We get some below zero temps in the winter for short periods of time, but I would say the usual temps during winter months are in the upper teens to low twenties (F).

Does heated garage need vapor barrier?

I am buying a house with a 3-car drywall finished and painted garage. The exterior walls have R-19 rolled insulation in them. The house adjoining walls have R-23 net and blow insulation in them. I want to heat the space with a ceiling mounted Reznor UDAP-60 heater. Should I be concerned that...

I am in the planning stages of building a house in eastern Iowa. My general contractor emailed me today and said "My electrician advised against using LED lights on the exterior of the house, they don't perform well over the long term when subjected to the cold temperatures." Since I don't...
