tool hoarders? polishers? i dont get it

It seems to fall to 2 groups. The hoarders and the users with a little over lap in between. I have had some nice tools over the years, some would say rare but I always pass them on. 8" Vise on Ebay has a $1100 bid.

That vise looks mint to me. I cant see a mark on the jaws etc. For a vise to use it would be to much for me, Ive got ones that size and paid less than half of the sold price. "But" I can see if you are a serious yost enthusiast and you need a capstone, that vise would not come around everyday.

    8" Reed 208, 280lb Vise - My New Project. =)

Steel would most likely be the answer, if you do go timber it would have to be substantial. Bolting it to the floor would also be highly reccomended. The other option to bolting is mass. Make the table heavy enough, vise and work wont budge it I really like the look of your vise! I think the...

    Intresting Swivel Vise

91 Bronc, The bench does look small in the pics in relation to the vises, but its not, bench alone is over 700 pounds, the top is 1" thick steel plate. About 1700 pounds setting there as of pic. M100, The vise on the left is an 8.5" Rock Island. As far as post vises, I think there are 8 or 9...

    Intresting Swivel Vise

I found a nice vise to replace a loaner I borrowed from my folks a couple of years ago. It has the same features that my former vise has, swivles in 2 directions. Looks to be in great shape for the age.
