Are all Proto rebuild kits the same? Best Sources for them?

Also anyone know if there is a difference between ratchets with the J in front, I am seeing kits that say J5449. Does J5449= 5449? What does the J mean in certain Proto SKUs?

Are all Proto rebuild kits the same? Best Sources for them?

Grangier is like 2x more than other sources, was hoping to avoid them. Good to hear you had a good result with your even more ancient ratchet.

Are all Proto rebuild kits the same? Best Sources for them?

Just picked up 2 proto ratchets, 5449 & 5249, 1/2 and 3/8 drive respectively. They need to be rebuilt (broken springs). Are all rebuild kits for these the same? these seemed pretty old. They don't say los Angeles on them so they aren't too old, but there are no date codes like craftsman has so I...

    The Harbor Freight PASS/FAIL Thread...

Just went into my local HF for a 3/8 arbor hole saw bit and saw the new Doyle vises. It looks like they took the 51888 craftsman and cloned it. Also had one that looked like a wilton mechanics series. was impressed.

Flying V Craftsman (1/2in) Bearing Size?

Don, don't be afraid! It is easy once you know what to do in order to keep the pawl from loading the bearing into the spring and shooting it to the far side of the moon. honestly, it looks like it needs to be taken apart and cleaned, though wd-40 is a good solvent and will help some.

Flying V Craftsman (1/2in) Bearing Size?

The BB worked out like a champ. Anyone who reads this, if you lose your ball bearing in a half inch drive c-man, go to Walmart and get a package of your standard daisy bbs and it will work perfectly. You will have 200 bbs left over, but oh well.
