I have taken one side of a 240 volt receptacle and installed a 110 volt nearby. Is the poster's situation dangerous because of the jerry-rigged nature of the install? Or, is it considered unsafe to pull off a 240 volt outlet? Have a good day! Michael

I considered building one from scratch, too. I sent the drawings to a couple shops to quote the laser/plasma cutting cost and decided the economics on the project sucked :). Though it was a fun mind exercise...I just bought one in the end. Have a good day! Michael

Before photographs: Progress: Tomorrow, I'm going to buy the stain grade maple to reface the existing cabinet grade plywood. In hindsight, I would have used stain grain plywood on the sides and solid wood for the fronts... oh well :). This way is more work, but it'll turn out...
