dewalt vs makita 3/8 cordless impact

I'm having the same debate right now. I already have the white Makita drill and impact driver, 2x small battery and charger. I could get bare tool and large battery for about $260 online. Or I could get the Milwaukee M18 kit for around the same locally from Home Depot. I'm hoping M18 price...

Using old file cabinet as tool stand

Great minds think alike... or something like that. I'm using one right now on a HF furniture dolly to hold my welder (flux-core - no bottle). Welding supplies and safety gear is in the drawers. It's working for now, but is not a permanent solution. Just haven't had the time to fab up a...

    Hands as tools

My dad uses Bag Balm. Not sure where he gets it, but no more cracked hands for him.

Best worklight for working under dash

I use the LED light that came in my craftsman nextec kit. I thought it was a little gimmicky at first, but now can't imagine not having it. Also have a Petzl Tikka headlamp. That thing rocks and the elastic is still good after 8 years of had use.

    Keter Master Pro?

I bought one too at Costco last week. Also checked all the reviews on Amazon while in the store. Did a quick search here, but no dice. Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but also plan to use as a portable stand for my table and miter saws. I'm only 5'10" so the height should be good for me...

    Gloves

I'm sticking with Mechanix M-Pact. I had a pair of their regular ones only last 3 weeks of daily use in Iraq. Nomex aviator gloves (Government Issue you can find them at surplus stores) lasted 2 weeks. Had some Oakley's (expensive @ $70 iirc) that didn't fit my sausage fingers so I gave...

    Drill press storage tray

I used one of the cheapo HF magnetic trays. My DP is on the bench next to my tool chest, so the tray is stuck to that. I drilled a few extra holes in it to store spade bits, and then the other bits are in the tray. I can post pics tonight at home. Working well for me so far. Other option I...

Is it possible to DIY wall tile and floor tile?

I did the countertops in my townhouse with 12x12 granite tiles. Rented the saw and had it all layed out and installed in a day. Grout work was kind of a PITA, but not hard. Large flat surfaces are easy. I called in a pro to redo my shower stall and tub surround. I probably could have...

    Small toolbox organization

No pictures cause now everything is in my bench setup, but for years I had a Craftsman 3-drawer "rally" box. Top drawer was screwdrivers, pliers, punches, chisels Middle drawer was SAE - wrenches 3/8-3/4, rail of 3/8 sockets shallow and deep Bottom drwaer was Metric - 10-19mm wrenches, and...

How much would you spend on a knife?

Like Rust said in the other knife thread. Knives are cool til someone gets stabbed. I could get on my soapbox, but at the end of the day, it's just another tool.

How much would you spend on a knife?

I'm in the same boat. Bought a Benchmade Elishewitz Stryker in 2000 and all of a sudden stopped looking at any others for an EDC. I did buy a Buck knife last year, but that was a fixed blade Bucklite Max for field dressing game. I think it was $20 on sale a Bass Pro.

Looking for a good metric stubby wrench set

I picked up the HF ones to use in pinch. Made in India, and absolutely horrible. Replaced them with Gearwrench when Sears had a 1/2 off sale. Not USA, but the Craftsmans were already China, and huge to boot. They were the right price and get the job done.

I need a rack to store my wheels and tires

Anyway you could invert the one you originally posted? Hang it "upside down" so to speak so the sharp corners are above the danger zone?

    BMW lover in MD

Welcome from a fellow MD guy. Where are you at? I'm in Howard County myself. What kind of BMW's do you work on. I had to sell my e46 when we found out we were having twins. Then I had an e30 for a while as a project car. My buddy has a 2002 and a Dinan e28 that makes me lust for an M5...

    Inexpensive backyard storage ideas?

I did the same thing - and actually bought the low profile one (I have to duck - and I'm 5'10") so it fits underneath my deck. Had to do a little digging to get the ground level, but it's been the best $300 I've spent to clean up the garage. Holds all the stuff I rarely use, (camping gear...
