Sears has the 6" Irwin locking clamp pliers with swivel pads for $6.99. I use these all the time at work for welding and this is the cheapest I've seen them by far.

That's an excellent price on the 18". I can usually get tools like this for cheap, and I can still get the 15" a few bucks cheaper, however the 18" is over $20 cheaper than my price.
Not sure about the Kobalt ones, but we've already had two guys hang off of a 4' Ridgid aluminum at work with no problems whatsoever. The only thing I would recommend again did using a cheater bar with one, but in all honesty the same goes for steel. They are much lighter and nicer to use though.
