Chimney Liner for Fuel Oil Furnace

That’s the route I went (a little lower), and we agreed that we keep $1000 in escrow from the purchase until it’s finished. Yes we did. Yes we have closed on the sale and we had $1000 held back in escrow until completed. I have until possession date (1/24/2026) to remedy the furnace exhaust...

Chimney Liner for Fuel Oil Furnace

I tried that but they wanted a $3000 allowance so I declined.

Chimney Liner for Fuel Oil Furnace

We just sold a house and they are requesting that I install a chimney liner (currently there is no liner), and I wanted to see what I can get away with by code. The exhaust gasses are not that hot (I can hold my hand in front of the exhaust pipe). What I pull up for inexpensive options are...

New Construction - Is window trim necessary?

I just pulled the window up and yes it is listed as nailing fin with j-channel.

New Construction - Is window trim necessary?

Thanks for the tip I appreciate that. I’ll be rolling out the seams before installing the j channel. When I installed that tape it was the dead of summer and hot so it all seemed to stick nicely but now that it’s getting cold here in Ohio I’m noticing some areas pulling away. Thanks again!

New Construction - Is window trim necessary?

Well it looks like it would make quite a bit of difference as it turns out. I didn’t get enough coffee this morning before I had asked this. The j channel is more shallow than the window so it does hide the metal cut better.

New Construction - Is window trim necessary?

I went to start installing the j-channel that I bought to trim out the windows and I started realizing it won’t cover any more of the metal siding that I’m going to install, so I started wondering if trimming them out with the j-channel will do any more than add an aesthetically pleasing look...

    Rafter Birdsmouth Calculation

This was the one that worked best for me. Still slightly off but I pinpointed it to the OSB spacers in between the beam plies caused the beam width to vary slightly thus throwing off my rafter cuts. Here they are. Hung up and notched for purlins.

    Rafter Birdsmouth Calculation

I don’t know how I’m messing up this rafter cut but I’m going to lose my mind if I don’t figure it out. I have a low pitch porch roof with a 2x10 ridge board. Rise is 23”, building width is 166-1/8”, rafters are 2x8, seat cut is 5-7/8”, the heel cut height is where something is off. The rafter...

Porch Roof Headers Connection to Wall

Thanks for all the help. The return beams won’t line up directly to the posts that are inside the house wall so I think I’ll have to go with a ledger and hang the beams off of it.

Porch Roof Headers Connection to Wall

Maybe this image will help it’s the closest matching roof that I could find quickly. Gabled porch roof rafter framed. The slope is much less than this though, maybe a 3:12. Also there is no structural ridge beam only a ridge board. There will be rafter ties. I wanted to run a ridge beam but I...

Porch Roof Headers Connection to Wall

Sorry I lacked some details. It is a gable roof running perpendicular to the wall. The beams running to the posts from the house wall span 14’ and are tripled 2x12s that rest on 6x6 posts.

Porch Roof Headers Connection to Wall

I can’t keep a straight line on my phone if my life depended on it. This will give you a rough idea with what I’m talking about. Would a 2x12 ledger board through bolted to the posts/(2)2x12 beams suffice?

Porch Roof Headers Connection to Wall

I’m probably overthinking this but I’m building the front porch roof (added after original plans) to our house build and I’m trying to figure out the best way to tie the headers into the wall that are perpendicular to the house. I have 6x6 posts behind the wall and (2)2x12 beam in between for...

    Getting Metal Panels On Roof

That’s the way to do it. I’m always trying to come up with out of the box ideas. I didn’t get to try this one but when I do our shop roof I probably will. Tell me about it lol. I suffer the ADD brain too and get very sidetracked. I ended up building a stationary wooden overhead lift with a hand...
