Thanks for the info. I have no idea where he may have picked that up, knowing him I bet he didn't buy it new!

    Information on Republic hand tools

I tried the search engine without luck before posting. I found a 3/8" drive breaker bar labeled "Republic" and "Forged in USA" on the handle in a toolbox that belonged to my dad. I don't believe that it's real high quality but is made in the USA. I googled this and found some rather vague info...

Use mostly Metric, SAE is seldom-used (What would you recommend?)

When I quit wrenching for a living in 1991 most of my stuff was and still is SAE. I only had a few metric wrenches and sockets. Since then I have purchased metric sockets in 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" in deep and shallow plus combinations up to 30mm. I still use the SAE most of the time because I'm a...

    Collecting tools?

I turned wrenches as a career for about 15 years. Over the years I managed to collect quite a number of 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" ratchets. Here are some pics. SK, Snap-On, Mac, New Britain, Craftsman and a few others. Some were used a lot, some have never been used. I don't have a pic of the...

Thoughts and advice on getting an air compressor

When I quit wrenching for a living in 1991 air and corded tools were the only thing available other than battery screwdrivers and low power drills. I now have some battery operated tools and wish they would have been available back then but I still have all my air powered tools and wouldn't...

2026 Garage Sale Thread (15th Annual)

That bottom 5/16" looks just like mine. So do the finishes just degrade over time with exposure and use?

2026 Garage Sale Thread (15th Annual)

Here are pics of the two with the questionable finish along with another wrench that has been used hard. I used some brake cleaner on a rag and yesterday tried some carb cleaner on a rag. Neither removed the discoloration.

2026 Garage Sale Thread (15th Annual)

I didn't find these in 2026 but in about 2013 I didn't know about this site. My wife and I stopped at a farm house with a yard sale sign and I began looking at tools. Most was junk but I found a couple of Snap On combo wrenches in a pile and started searching. I found a set of long combo...

2026 Garage Sale Thread (15th Annual)

That's what I do. I was selling a Craftsman snowblower that was like new for $250. Just didn't need it anymore and wanted it our of the way. Guy offered me $175, I counted with $275. We haggled for a few minutes and he bought it for $260.🤷🏼‍♂️

New Snap On vs HF "Quality test"?

When I bought my SO roller cabinet 40 or so years ago there wasn't much to compare with then. The bottom of my New Britain bottom cabinet (who knows who made it) was cracked where the casters attach and the wheels would go flat because of over loading. There weren't any big boxes available...

Quality of Husky Tools from Home Depot

Sorry if this has been asked about and discussed before. I tried the Search feature and didn't find anything. What is the quality of the Husky brand hand tools being sold by Home Depot? I have some old Husky stuff, probably made by New Britain that is good but I'm curious about the stuff from...

The Vintage New Britain and Associated Thread!

I have the same breaker bar, in fact I have 8 of them I bought brand new years ago still wrapped in the paper they were shipped in from the factory. They reside in the bottom of my toolbox and probably 5 or 6 are still wrapped in paper. I believe they were originally shipped "in the white"...

Why no 15mm short impact sockets?

I bought a Tool Force metric short 1/2" drive impact socket set. I was in a bind and needed something quick. I noticed it's missing a 15 and 20mm socket. I went to Amazon and noticed many of their sets don't include those sizes either. I needed the 15mm yesterday while working on my F-150...
