    Rusting iron handrail

Painted black iron railing around outdoor porch and steps is rusting at blue stone attachments. Unfortunately installer left circular bathtub around each iron insertion point- so snow sits in there and rain puddles. I’ll scrape and repaint with black Rustoleum but how would you fill each little...

How to fill/seal gap between brick house and perimeter sidewalk

Old perimeter sidewalk has 1/2 - 2 inch gap to house. I’ve sealed it previously with caulking ( likely with foam backer rod, maybe not) and other areas with mortar. Both failed over time. Caulk shrunk a lot and mortar cracked and loosened. Definitely gets rainwater. Time to redo it. Any...

    Need to add trap

How do I determine if the 2 inch line (vertical that I added a T and tapped into with the P trap) is properly vented? And what if it is not?

    Need to add trap

Got it done. Had to use plastic and abs. No more sewer gas smell! The advice to post some more photos to show the rest of the ABS drains got me thinking of connecting to a 2 inch veryical drain just a little further away. I appreciate everyone’s advice.

    Need to add trap

Old 1st floor bathroom with small cast iron tub does not have any trap. 20 yrs of mild sewer gas smells despite rubber stopper in drain and silicone filling up the overflow chrome opening. Don't use the tub often. But getting more sewer smells (have replaced the toilet wax and caulked around the...

    Concrete Fastener Pulled Out

Thanks everybody. 1. The wall that the lag shield pulled out from is my house. Brick then cinderblock and then drywall in the family room. No practical way to run a bolt through all that, and cut and repair drywall. I'm an amateur. 2. The long wood element you see above the empty lag sleeve...

    Concrete Fastener Pulled Out

Any advantage to using a different lag shield? I can definitely use a longer one. But the problem was not the strength of the lag screw but that the lag shield just pulled right out. Are any lag shields made more aggressively to resist traction? The lag shield I had used said "1/2 hole" and 1/4...

    Concrete Fastener Pulled Out

Hello: I have heavy duty fairy lights hung on heavy duty wire (the right way to mount Fairy Lights). The wire is then looped through a ring and then continues to other points in the backyard. (starts and finishes at the garage). Garage to house, to tall pole mounted on fence and then back to...

240V to garage using current 120V conduit

It worked out well. I hired an electrician. Removed the funky RV 30 Amp 125 V and used those 10 g wires for new 220 V NEMA 6-20. He did specifically confirm by tracing those 10g wires back the the house external main panel where he put in 2 appropriate 20A circuit breakers (can upgrade to 30...

    Retrofit a door Lentel?

Thanks everybody! I gotta keep it simple. Perhaps leave it alone (the cinderblocks are hollow) so I can't cut in on the sides to insert steel lintel. Are you suggesting I recreate what was there originally- pull out the prehung new door and frame and insert 2x6 jambs and header, without...

    Retrofit a door Lentel?

Old cinderblock garage with stucco exterior. Old door (36" rough opening) had 2x6 frame but the jack studs (screwed into the cinderblock) had rotted at their base so not even in contact with the sill. Didn't appear to provide any vertical support. Also large mouse hole. There was no lentel. So...

240V to garage using current 120V conduit

So I have decided to use the (current) old 3/4 in metal conduit that already runs from house to detached garage. I will pull out all the old wires and just run 6-6-6 copper THWN and #10 green for ground which will not overfill the conduit according to the chart I found. This will service a new...

240V to garage using current 120V conduit

Brewchief: It is a metal conduit that leaves my 100yr old brick house then dives underground for about 25ft and comes into my garage underground as metal. Maybe 3/4 inch. Yes, if I can't just use that 30A circuit then I think your idea will be the way to do it. Problem is I do have control over...

240V to garage using current 120V conduit

Not sure. The 240V plug in charger that came with car says it can be plugged into a NEMA 6-20 receptacle. I'll have to research if I can purchase a wall charger that does not require neutral. I'll open up and look at the current 120v 30A RV charger receptacle -- I figured there was a neutral...

240V to garage using current 120V conduit

I'm in Colorado with old detached garage. Need to Run (at least) 30A 240V line to power a single EV car charger. Code says only only 1 underground conduit to garage which I already have with lots of wires (pretty packed in there) . One is dedicated to a 30A 120V Receptacle I never have used (I...
