Opinions on garage flooring- concrete, epoxy, racedeck

All those floors have pros and cons. A good two part epoxy on a properly prepped floor will take anything you throw at it and ask for more. Remember to use sand (grit) to keep it from being slick, but it doesn't take much before it will be like mopping sand paper. Concrete can be stained (and...

    vct flooring 1 year old

Wow, this thread goes on and on. I would like to put my 2 cents in as I have probably laid a square mile of VCT over the years... VCT is a durable commercial flooring that will stand up to almost anything you throw at it as long as it is cared for properly. I can give some tips about how to lay...

What's a good in-wall timer for bathroom fan?

Occupancy sensors are the way to go. You can't forget to turn them on or off. Set them to run for 10-20 minutes after vacant and I bet you will be happy with it.

    Lighting layout

You can buy 8ft tandem T8 fixtures. They use 4 - 4ft T8 bulbs, put out more light, start at lower temps, and are pretty inexpensive. Home Depot usually stocks them.

Need help with duct design for shop

It's not much more and I will probably go with spiral. I still need some help with sizing the ducts for the spaces covered/ registers needed. Thanks pseudo for the general guidelines... but I don't know what I would need for the different areas. There are 2 rooms- 6x10x7.5' tall (one of those...

    Would this work?

You could put a plug on the air compressor and plug it in the dryer receptacle when you wanted to use it.... After doing that a few dozen times, you may be inclined to run a new circuit for te compressor though. :lol_hitti

Tool for cutting Romex (NM sheathed)

Get a good pair of Klein lineman pliers like the HD2000-9NE. I cut stranded copper up to #2, 6/3, nails, screws, and sometimes nail a box up with them. If they wear out, Klein will replace them. Klein makes cheaper versions, but these are the ones to get. ;)...

Need help with duct design for shop

So, I hope this helps... I am not an architect. Also, would like some suggestions on register size. For the open area on right, I would like to use the grills you cut in to the duct and for the covered area on the left, ceiling boots. I plan on sheetrocking the area on the left. I am leaving the...

I need some opinions on a sub panel install

Well, I checked out the rest of your garage pics and see the rest of the romex coming out of the main and figure that size panel is pretty full... Seems they pulled almost everything out of a single 2-1/2" knock out in the top... Guess that's one way to do it.

I need some opinions on a sub panel install

It's a GE sub panel, buy GE breakers (Q-line). They should be right beside the Square D HOM breakers. Even though most blade type breakers will fit in other panels, you should stick with the ones designed for that panel. There are slight differences and a bad connection leads to heat and a...

Need help with duct design for shop

Thanks! I updated it. Also, I went and measured and think that I may need to run the duct down the center so that it doesn't block my lights. I only have 11 inches of space between the I beams and the door tracks if I get far enough from the canopy lights to not cause problems. See revised layout.

Need help with duct design for shop

Oh, I plan on dropping a 24x30 return down through the ceiling into the short hallway between the 6x16 room and the two 6x10 rooms. It is open into the 10x40 shop area and where the door to the side of the building is. There is another walkthrough door in the front of the 10x40 room (centered in...

Need help with duct design for shop

I just built a 40x60 metal building that basically has 3- 20x40 bays. It has 12ft side walls and was insulated with 4" (standard is 3") insulation. I have made rooms in a the first bay (16x40) which consist of a 10x 40 workshop that opens into the other two bays with a cased opening (would fit a...
