    Wood Stove: How many cords?

That's really cool. I am not going to show my wife that picture because she'll want it and I don't know if that configuration will work for the property. What do you mean "rack instead of stack"? My goal is to have about 4 years worth of wood on hand and do a rotation, so that the wood I'm...

    Wood Stove: How many cords?

@Shiftless I get what you are saying. The house has forced hot air heat. It is two floors and 1500-ish sq/ft. We are (fingers crossed, this will be the first winter) hoping that by having the thermostat trigger the air handler to circulate the air in the house for 10-15 minutes every hour, it...

    Wood Stove: How many cords?

Thanks for the link. Same here: no stove in detached or they won't cover it. I'm already shopping for a "big-boy" chainsaw. Trying to decide between Husky 562xp, 564xp and go-big-or-go-home 372xp. I really like the 372 but I'm not getting any younger. I really like the idea of the 564 --but the...

    Wood Stove: How many cords?

We are planning on buying 3 cords of 16-foot log-length that I'll buck and split, and 3 cords of pre-cut & split that I'll just stack. We are thinking 6 cords should get us through this winter. The 3 cords of log-length are about 5 years old so should be fairly OK to burn this winter if I get to...

    Wood Stove: How many cords?

Hello Garage Journal... I need some help calculating cords of wood vs propane use. My wife and I are starting a wood stove program in the house. How do I reasonably or sensibility convert about 1,000 gallons of propane into "how much wood do I need to burn" --Because every chart/wood BTU thing...

My Shop Internet Service Plan - Advise please

to @dcg9381 It is a super easy web GUI, dhcp, easy easy easy. No "cisco speak" required. Very easy. No it is not PoE "hot" out of the box. You have to use default user/pw to click the checkboxes for each port to enable the PoE. @Hank11 I don't want to give out bad advice. I don't know code...

My Shop Internet Service Plan - Advise please

IT person commenting: My wife and I are building a shed/workshop right now at our new property/house so I'm going through the same questions and things you are. I would 1000% run fiber so you can run all three (power, water, fiber) in same trench. You cannot run a 250-ft span of copper...

    Toilet Selection???

This is (mostly) all toilet related: The day of our first date, my wife closed on a 1052sqft house. It is a 3bd, 1ba ranch on a slab. (emphasis on slab/no basement) I proceeded to fall head over heels for her, then I shacked up with her, and then I systematically destroyed her house. I gutted...

    Power to table saw

Do you have dust collection? That's your answer. If you have dust collection run your power cord the same way you run your DC pipe. I have a 10" tilting table ts that plugs in overhead and the cord for my 12/14 cabinet saw runs along the floor on the outfeed side, basically along the dc flex hose.

NEC 2017: Two voltages on 2-pole breaker (not mwbc)

Thanks for all the replies. MattT yes, I guess you are correct. I think the house was built in the late 1980's. I went to high school with a guy who is a 3rd year journeyman so was asking about 2017 because that's what our state is on and I assumed if he came over to take a look any work he...

NEC 2017: Two voltages on 2-pole breaker (not mwbc)

Friends just bought a new-to-them house and I've never seen this before. He's got 2-pole 20A breakers supplying three circuits: Two 120V and one 240V circuit. Not mwbc, he's got three 12/2 wires going to each breaker, two 120v are hot-to-breaker then neutral/ground to bars then one 12/2...

Structural values for roof spray foam insulation?

Interesting you look at it that way. Aren't there differences in Concrete or asphalt? Or even dimensional lumber with drought and wet years so same two pieces get stamps but one has thicker sap rings than the other? With foam I was thinking about it being brittle or breaking down. Don't know...

Structural values for roof spray foam insulation?

Heh... I was thinking opposite: decrease rafter/truss spacing. I could swear that I saw a site from somewhere legit (maybe Green Building Advisor) that mentioned how rigid spray foam on underside of roof deck could be applied to span and structural tables within IRC or IBC. I must have been...

Just lost the roof to my brand new pole building...Advice for the rebuild?

tycoonbob, I'd go get a lawyer. I think you are being too soft with the whole "I called my insurance company" thing. Reality: You said yes and wrote a check presumably to someone who was licensed and legit to build you a safe building and to Code. You also said that you did a dirt floor so you...

    Washing Shop Towels, favorite method?

Get free washer/dryers on Craigslist. If I ever washed my shop clothes or rags in our house washer & dryer my wife would pull a Lorena Bobbitt the next time I went to sleep.
