    James Hardie Cedar shake siding

No shingles, but I used JH's Artisan siding profile on my rebuild with a rain--screen gap behind it, and did mitered joints at all outside corners, and a small piece of square JH trim in inside corners. Came out nicely. The gap in the siding in the pic was for a knee to support an arbor...

    Power to table saw

Likely not the solution you are looking for, but for years, I ran my Unisaw off a 100’ heavy SO cord from a dryer outlet in the house...run out through the basement window to the detached garage with no 240v. As much of a pain as that was, that long cord still gets used. My shop has grown and...

What's on your walls? Neat storage ideas!

Wanted to get a pair of downriggers off the boat/garage floor. Used some scrap trim board to make a pair of slide-in mounts for the wall. Flange on the base fits into a narrow rabbet. Mounted both of them onto a bit of plywood, so I could screw into the studs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Air lines disconnect

Worked at a place that made large aluminum tubes with windows, and most of the gajillion feet of hose used there had small rings of built up tape (usually a thin, and dense foam tape) at the female fitting on every hose length. Served three purposes...keeping the hoses from popping off when...

40X60 Shop Build - Washington State

Looks great in there! I wish mine was that size. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Tankless Water heaters, yeah or nah?

They may not be the best solution for every use/need, but they definitely have their advantages (and disadvantages). I did a complete rebuild of my 1940's rambler, going from 1268 sf on one floor with all unfinished basement, to 2600 sf on two-floors plus most of the basement is now finished...

    Rod storage...who’s doing what?

Finally got the house rebuild and garage replacement done last summer, and then, a month ago, I actually got the boat inside where she was meant to be. Sadly, the boat took a serious hammering in the weather for far too many years, and I haven’t determined whether it’s a loss or repairable...one...

I'm looking for a small 8mm nut driver

Am I the only one that is more concerned about finding a solution for the bolts that keep coming loose? Spring washers, locktite, replacement of nuts? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Costco LED

I'm loving mine. New garage build, roughly 20x35 with 14' walls and vaulted ceiling in 60%. I have about 3/4 of the total 28 fixtures mounted currently (some temporarily while I work on a better mount system for the vaulted portion of roof), on two switched circuits. Circuit 1 switches rows A...

Radiant heat piping - The ART of...

I think one of my favorite parts is how they have used the coiling tendencies of the flexible pipe to drive that part of the design, allowing the pipe to sweep/arc naturally, instead of fighting it with a "squared" install.

School me on engineered hardwood floor please

I used the Dricore panels in my basement. So far, so good. Did carpet and vinyl over that. Wasn’t sure whether I was going to see moisture after the rebuild (hadn’t seen much previously, but apparently I had opened the floodgates when I expanded the basement), so didn’t want to spend a ton down...

Fixing growing crack in slab garage floor

As noted...something is settling. Don’t do a repair until you find and fix the cause of the settling. I would expect to start seeing some flexing and pulling in the framing as well, but it might not be noticeable yet. Get a laser and monitor slab and plate elevations from a fixed, stable...

    Outside compressor enclosure

Poking around on the webs and ran across a great example of a DIY sound enclosure for a small-medium sized compressor. Some good detailed photos of the whole assembly at the link below. Scale is obviously adjustable to your own needs. I'm not a big fan of blow-molded plastic, but the shell...
