    What is It?

I'm guessing that it got mixed up in the packaging with the lift kit and could be some sensor for equipment in the warehouse. There are no part #'s on it or I would have done that first. A couple more pics. Thanks for the suggestions!

    What is It?

I'll look at it closer tonight and put 12 volts to it. I don't think the contact pulls out. There is a hole where the plastic part extends out.

    What is It?

I hope this is OK to post here. It's not tool related but I did find it in my garage while we were using tools! A few weeks ago we installed a lift kit and shocks on my daughters 2016 Jeep JK. After we were done and I was cleaning up I found this on the garage floor where all of the new parts...

Picked this up a few weeks ago from a thrift/junk store for a Jackson. Now it's my wire wheel and buffer grinder.

Is this South Bend lathe still a good buy?

It's a model 9A and a good lathe for a hobbyist because it's small, reasonably accurate and a bench model. 10's of thousands were sold so there is a good secondary market for parts. It looks like it's been sitting for awhile and the rust could be an issue depending on how severe it is. If it...

Brought home a South Bend 9A

There is a guy on Practical Machinist named Latheman. I don't know the complete story but I believe he bought out a ton of NOS parts from the old SB plant. I would email him the stuff you're having a hard time finding. He's not cheap but similar to eBay prices.

    Anyone recognize this maker's mark?

Here's an enhanced photo in case someone recognizes it. I thought maybe Ames but no hits for a logo like that.

Best way to approach a disassembled Southbend 9A?

A lot of good advise on this thread. They started making the workshop 9A's around 1936. There should be a serial # stamped on the RH TOP of the bed of the lathe. There are many many threads on multiple websites on rebuilding/restoring the lathe. It's not a complicated machine and the most...
