99.9% of people will never need anything over 3/4" and a 1" and larger is little more than a decoration or tool **** unless you are playing in the big end of town.

I am rapidly running out of space and with the delivery of my new lathe it is time to clear out the small 12" Craftsman I have.
She is Model 101.28950 which makes it and 1973 to 1981 and the last of the industrial versions before their quality became questionable and Sears stop supplying lathes...
If concerned I would just add thickness to the web on either sides of the hole to reduce their ability to push the web together, but seriously in a residential application unless it is directly under some truss load etc I would think it is well over engineered.
Isn't the purpose of the inner web on an I-Beam simply to keep the top and bottom flanges separate ? With the strength coming from the upper and lower flange in either compression or extension ?
This being the case then placement of a round hole would have minimal effect on the strength unless...

Ok so here is the big question, I am about to put some PVC Tiles down in my shop and need to decide between if I want to see the interlocking tabls or not.
The floor will be a pattern so the tiles will vary in colour so I am inclined to think the the interlocking may look a little odd.
