It does look like a layer of bondo on the bottom, then a silver/gray color with the red on top.

That looks pretty good, do you have a writeup on how you did the treadmill motor conversion? Or do you have any links to a good how to do it? I've already got the treadmill but need to figure out what else I can use from it besides the motor, and what I need to buy.

I think we are both thinking of spending money intelligently, as in not spending more money on this than I could buy a better one for. You advised being cheap and not throwing a lot on money into this and I agreed, unless I misunderstood you.

I think it might differ depending on where you live. I've seen lots of posts by those living in the rust belt saying water based solutions rust out the washers too fast. But those in a more arid environment are happy with simple green

I did get it apart and found that the spindle pulley is stripped, so I'm on a quest for on of those. Are there any machinist on here that would know how feasible it would be to get a splined bushing made to attach to the top of the pulley?

I passed on it because of what jakemac mentioned about being from different manufacturers. And fortunately another member found a use for it.
