    Accurate dial tire gauge

Thanks for the link to the Project Farm review. I've watched a couple of the episodes over the years and I think they do a pretty good, scientific review of products.

Latest manufacture date for Snap-on British Standard Sockets

Interesting that they are noted as "Non Flank drive", yet Lotus in his earlier post related that he has '90s sockets that are Flank drive.

    Accurate dial tire gauge

The tire bumper seems like a good idea if you a fleet mechanic or similar, you could quickly detect a dangerously low tire. And then you could take it fishing.

    Accurate dial tire gauge

True, if a gauge is a little off it will still get all the tires the same, or proportional to their correct pressures. My concern is that a lot of people will have had gauges like mine that was ten psi off. So instead of thirty psi they have twenty psi in their tires.

    Accurate dial tire gauge

Will you trust those gauges in five or ten years? In industry gauges are typically recalibrated every year, even very high quality ones.

    Accurate dial tire gauge

I had a couple of the newer cheap dial type gauges and I brought them to a friend who worked in an instrument shop to calibrate. One was within one psi in its whole travel. The other was exactly ten psi out through the whole travel. He used the proper puller and removed and reinstalled the...

Latest manufacture date for Snap-on British Standard Sockets

Dave, are all of the sockets you showed Snap0n? If so that brings us up to the current millenium! I should mention that I have a separate thread about the Canadian made BS socket in my original post here...

Latest manufacture date for Snap-on British Standard Sockets

I picked up a few that seem to be dated 1988. Am I reading the date code correctly, and does anyone have any with more recent date codes? Socket on the left:

Snap-on British Standard Socket made in Canada

Has anyone else found one of these sockets? It makes sense that the British size sockets would be made in Canada while the factory was operating since we are part of the Commonwealth. But all the others I have found were made in the USA. It is, of course, the one on the right.

Crescent wrench made by James Smarts (sic) Canada

Thanks for all the info, guys. I would have answered sooner but it turns out I don't get email reminders from the site (I'll see about setting that up). No doubt the diamond G refers to John M. Gill, president of James Smart Company for many years. Amusingly, he is referred to by that name as...

Crescent wrench made by James Smarts (sic) Canada

I have been unable to find information about this tool, apparently the Internet has never heard of Crescent wrenches made here in Canada by Smarts. James Smarts was a major Canadian manufacturer until the 1960s, I believe. They made iron and steel wares, such as cast iron frying pans, trash...

    Non-rust OEM fasteners

There's a huge variety of stainless steel fasteners, ARP makes some very strong ones. Here's a blurb from the ARP website: The chart below should remove any lingering doubts that ARP Stainless is the best choice for your ride – whether it’s a hot rod, classic or a land speed car...

    Non-rust OEM fasteners

Why should we think this rusty left hand thread screw is stainless steel? And why would we think that the slightly rusty steel bar it goes through is aluminum?

Re-doing some Plumbing...pex or stick with Cu?

Regarding modern solder, it is indeed lead free, one type I've come across being 99.5% tin and half a percent silver. It's a little more difficult to use than the old 50/50 lead tin alloy, but significantly stronger. My in-laws had a hot water tank installed a while ago and whoever did it, did...
