    Furring strips for insulation

Franz, I have about 160 sheets of insluation to hang. I think I'll go with studs on the lower area, and see how that goes. Then I'll decide to either keep going with studs on higher (8'-15') areas or try the metal banding. With the stud approach. Are you guys suggesting I hang the studs...

    Furring strips for insulation

Thanks guys. I hadn't thought about how I'd hang things on up after the insulation was on. :headscrat I'll use one some kind of metal or wood stud for those areas. But my barn is 15' high and I won't be hanging anything up high. So what about some kind of metal strapping to hold the...

    Furring strips for insulation

What kind of furring strips would you use to hang 4'x8' insulation on the walls? I have a pole barn with 7.5' OC columns. I could hang the sheets horizontally and use some kind of furring strips, but I'm not sure what would be best. Trying to keep the cost down because the barn is big...

    R-value for pole barn

You're right Steve, insulation should have been a higher priority when I had this barn built. I wish my builder had of pushed me more on that. But I ran out of money and figured insulation could be added later. This is the first concrete I've had poured and I apparently didn't do enough...

    R-value for pole barn

Steve, Multiple layers... this is gonna cost me a fortune. And yes, too late for the floor. Is one layer even worth th effort? And I hadn't thought about covering it with a fire rated material. Thanks. Lets say I put one layer on the walls and ceiling. You think that would help at all...

    R-value for pole barn

Really? So painting the top of insulation white will accomplish as much, if not more, as putting in a layer of reflective foil? Well painting sounds easier to me. I may give that a shot, thanks. I'm now worried that I won't see much change from using only R10.

    R-value for pole barn

Thanks guys. I may get 200 sheets of this and see where that gets me. I don't need this place to stay 70* all winter, but I would like to keep it above freezing and reduce the temp swings. neblinc, For the ceiling, do you suggest I put up the thin reflective foil directly on the roof...

    R-value for pole barn

I'm hoping to insulate before winter rolls in. What R-value should I be looking at for Indiana climate? I found a source for 4'x9' sheets of R-10, 2" think for $5. Seems like the best price I can find. Is that a high enough R-value? And do you see any other problems with using this? Barn...

Little help with interior walls - please. (pics)

Thanks Kevin. According to those charts, it looks like the ceiling joists will need to be 2x6's to span 15'. Does that sound right to everyone? Or is there another approach I should be thinking about? Thanks for everyone's help.

Little help with interior walls - please. (pics)

As shown by the red lines below, the ceiling joists will span 15'. Can they run that long with only end support? Sorry for what I'm sure is an elementary framing question.

Haven't really figured out the AC yet if there will be any. Thinking maybe baseboard heaters. I'd like to heat the rest of the barn as well, which I'll save for another post. Morton did the building. Includes only the structure (not concrete, site work, or utilities). 42' x 75'. 10' and...

Little help with interior walls - please. (pics)

Thanks for the responses. I'm going with the 8' (or 9') ceiling. Boiler: Zoned agricultural and this won't be a residence, more of an office with a bathroom. The county seemed more concerned about the septic than anything else. I forgot to mention the plumbing has already been roughed in...

Little help with interior walls - please. (pics)

I am planning to put a small 15' x 42' apartment in my pole barn. This will be my first framing experience, so please excuse me if I'm not using the correct terms. :) Between my family and friends, I've heard lots of different opinions on how I should tackle this project. So I decided to take...
