While I don't wish it on anyone I have to say having a harbor freight jackstand fail and crush you is natural selection at work.
I like HF for some things but my goodness I can't imagine trusting my life to anything from them.
bottom stairs finished yesterday. Landing turn is fine thank goodness. working through railing design now. stairs feel very solid.
have to agree with others who said the stooping over in the attic is a pain. Definitely tiresome BUT not so tiresome that i'd have spent the $2k it was going...
Spent yesterday building my very first staircase. Very happy with the results. 10.5 run, 7.75 rise feels just right. Still have some work to do but my attic is now easily accessed and the house will be getting decluttered ASAP!
Builder wanted $2,500 for stairs. I have about $250 in them and...
i'll be putting my 30 gal air compressor under the landing to make use of the space.
once stairs are built and we've put all our stuff up there that is being stored i'll get to building a work bench.
They sistered to both sides of the outside truss' bottom chord as well as sistered one side of the top pieces (not sure if those are chords as well....the part the roof is nailed to). Then headered an opening using 3 2x8's (bottom chord is 2x8) at each end with hangars. The also added a...
I operate on the 'the less we do to support attorneys the better off we are' principal.
Anywho....guess what just happened?
Builder called last night and says 'crew will be there tomorrow am to frame up your opening'.
Signed the paperwork and gave the deposit in NOVEMBER for my 24x24 pole...
i'm not particularly svelte and pull down stairs are just not happening. we have a two car attached to the house so this garage is not going to get cluttered up with ****. **** goes in the attic. ground floor will be a tool box, work bench and a few woodworking tools. i'm a bit ocd and this...
nope! still have 1800 to pay.
they gave me name of truss co....not sure why they think i'm not going to follow up on their claims. a month ago it was 'xxxxx is the guy at truss co that designed your trusses...he's out this week but will be back next week to help'. then I hear nothing. last...
thanks for input guys. I called the truss co. turns out my contractor knows the solution and just doesn't want to spend the money (about $800) so they're blowing me off.
solution is slightly smaller truss sistered to adjacent truss and then cutting/headering chord.
since attic area (yes...
anyone have a favorite source for industrial style lighting? looking for galvanized or something similar. 24x24 w/ 10' ceiling height pole construction. no finish inside, covered in vinyl siding/shingles so interior is all wood (which I like).
I can find suppliers that sell things that LOOK...
attic area is 4'6" height so only for storage, not man cave. will be bins of clothes, toys, Christmas stuff, etc. we do plan to access it often enough that fold up stairs are not on the list.
contractor friends are telling me 'no big deal, just let their guy cut the chord after inspection...
lockers not good as you'll be storing wet and bulky stuff.
I am going to be doing something similar to what you're looking at and will likely go with something similar to the packers locker room shown above. cubbies.
So I had a detached 24x24 pole building built recently. Looks great but builder failed to incorporate an opening in attic truss for permanent staircase that I would be adding after completion (they wanted $2500 for the stairs...i'll handle that part thanks!).
Truss drawing specs 2' on center...
