I'm still trying to complete finishing my garage, but I did a wi-fi dimmer switch and just ordered an Echo Dot. It's my first Echo, so not really sure what else it can do besides that and play Music.
Looking forward to testing it out.
I don't really know a whole lot about construction. I bought the house with this detached garage. Thank for you trying to help.
Here's photos of what the garage looked like before insulation and drywall.
It looks the bottom could be doubled...a 2x6 on top (studs are 2x6) and maybe a 2x8 below it?
Hi,
I've slowly but surely have been getting my garage done - mostly DIY and then I'm having a drywall contractor finish the drywall.
I'm confused on the baseboard. My bottom plate juts out past the drywall and then my concrete juts out even further. For many reasons, I can't add a subfloor...
Okay - now I'm confused again. Here are photos of my attic and then the openings between the two floors. Are you saying close off attic and close off the lower space? Or just close off the attic? Would I put batts right up against the ceiling sheathing or rigid foam? I'm not understanding.
That's what I planned to do...against the sheathing. I ordered the below ones since it seems the least likely I can screw it up...looks like it gets stapled to the top plate and then the sheathing...
Thanks guys. I'm a little unclear on the terms, but I do believe the soffits are vented.
I counted 36 openings between the ceiling joists. So I'll need to staple in 36 of the attic vent inserts and then get the insulation as deep as possible (without compressing it) towards the soffit...
I'm a bit of a DIY novice. Trying to insulate and drywall just the first floor of my 40x30 detached garage.
I'm planning on batting the first floor (R-38 in the ceiling and R-19 in the walls) and then drywalling. However, I'm confused on the attic vents that need to vent to the soffit. Since...
Sorry, not sure what that means?
So are you thinking to lay plywood across the entire second floor and then do batts between the roof joists and plywood?
Forgot to mention that there are already stairs to the second floor. They are open stairs...no door.
Spray foam isn't an option right now due to price. There are numerous competing house projects at the moment and my gym insulation is about number 653 on that list if you asked my wife. If spray foam is the most logical option, insulation would have to wait a while.
Propane is available. I'll...
Hi, newbie here. I've done a lot of search and reading and was hoping to get some help.
My garage stats:
Size: 40x30 with loft
Insulation: None
Goal: Keep garage above 55° in the winter.
Heating Options: Electric. No NG available.
I bought this house last year. The detached garage was...
