I think Rick has the right idea. Or you could even go with sheets of 1/4" OSB or even 5.2mm Lauan for a more cost effective approach.

One thing you have to worry about with insulation is it smelling badly when it gets wet for a long period of time.

OSB is alot more resilient than most people give it credit. And it does have a smooth side and a rough side. If its a high quality OSB like Georgia Pacific, that smooth side is ultra smooth! At my local Lowe's, 7/16" OSB is $5.43, cheaper than 1/4" by about $1. I believe the white paneling...

Never have but I don't think it would be that hard given enough planning. Maybe look into some of that paint that will allow you to make faux woodgrains to give the door more character if a wood look is what you are going for. With proper colors, shadows and shading I think it could be pulled off.

I like those. I think you're right. Instead of going with a different type of bucket, 4 of those would be pretty sick and easy to install. My only concern is how low they appear to be. I want to be able to see over my dash ;)
