    Crappy kitchen install.....question on fix?

You don't need to cut the drywall any to attach the patch if you use metal nail plates to cover the notches. Trick is to use a piece of board 1x4 or strip of ply cut an inch or two wide. and 4 or five inches long. Slip it in between the studs thru the cut sheetrock and spin it 90 to the cut...

    Uncovered a code problem...

I may be inclined to cut a hole in the drywall and have a look see. You may discover somethimg else or nothing at all but gain peace of mind. Drywall is easy to repair, fires are hard to put out.

How do you guys feel about windows in a detached garage?

Like Kevin54 I get claustrophobic after awhile with no natural light or a garage door opened. My next garage will have windows fow a few reasons, I like to look outside, and it's nice to be able to open them an catch a cross breeze or vent out fumes from painting etc.

Re: Does a modern natural gas appliance need "drop pipes/condensation drops"? Cool better safe ya know. Most of the drips here are only a couple of inches long. You could come off the horizontal. There is a valve with 3/4 pipe thread on one end and fitting on the other for a flex. Shame you...

Lengthy post for a newbie about codes inspection/ remodeling

I agree with the above posters, 1st call to your inspection code offices and have a chat. If you find your not able to live in the building until you have a CO, certificate of occupancy you could always pick up a cheap camper then resell it.

    100 foot Natural gas run

If your system is sized correctly I would use the old fire place T unless you may replace the gas fireplace. Not sure how your systems run up there. Down here most homes are on a 2 pound system with a regulator at each appliance. You can make a 100 ft run with a 2 pound system.
