"The Car Barn" and "Hangout" Horse Barn Conversion

So after the insulation was done my installer called just before cleanup and asked if they can take down the Visqueen. In Illinois its code to do a fire protectant paint (or drywall) over Closed Cell. The Visqueen was left in place from the insulation install which saved my painter (whom I've...

Thanks Don, your build is legendary and magnificent. I have eclectic tastes in cars (mostly European) but theres a little of everything :)

I decided before the insulators showed up to power wash the lower trusses. I knew I wouldn't get 20 years worth of dirt off all of them but the bird @#!#@ covered faces of the 6 x 10's was driving me nuts. I bought a new Ryobi 18' extension for the task, which worked well (I worked on it for 3...

"The Car Barn" and "Hangout" Horse Barn Conversion

So the concrete was poured in mid May, but the slider door on the main entrance was removed. It took two to three weeks to get the doors scheduled and built which threw me off momentum but was ok because I had trade-shows to get to. The downside... Birds... and tons of them. If I were a super...

Thanks! They added Fiber to the mix. He used the highest quality ready-mix concrete maker in our area, the control joints were added within 10 hours of pouring, and everything was treated like a commercial building rather than a residential project... So far so good. :-)

So as a man of his word, they had the barn prepped within 3 days and poured on the 5th... It was amazing. 15 Loads of Concrete poured in under 5 hours. By lunch the last truck was gone. The owners son showed up that evening and did the saw cuts from 11pm until 1 am.

On a side note (not that I was spending enough money on this project). We decided to buy a UTV... This thing is awesome and after-all we live on a farm now :)

"The Car Barn" and "Hangout" Horse Barn Conversion

Thanks for the kind words. I had to formulate a plan. I knew what needed at a minimum before I could move cars over: Concrete, Insulation, Electrical, a Service Door, Lights and Overhead doors to replace the old sliders... HVAC was an outlier. I wanted radiant in-floor, but this is 8400 sq/ft...

    Weed whacker recommendations?

I honestly couldn't be happier with the EGO battery trimmer, weed whacker, chain saw and leaf blower. interchangeable batteries and I used it to mow down a half acre of weeds with 1.5 batteries in 45 minutes.

"The Car Barn" and "Hangout" Horse Barn Conversion

I'll start by saying that this site is so inspirational and helpful. In February my wife and I bought an old horse farm. She loves gardening and always wanted Chickens and Ducks. I have always been a garage rat and have been collecting cars for 20+ years (multiple storage locations had become...

Seville UltraHD or NewAge Cabinets? Anyone have impressions on these or others?

... LOL so true! Where else will I store my duplicates? I just picked up a few 66" Bamboo topped rolling carts on Sunday at Costco, pre-assembled Stainless steel, normally $799 online (on sale for $699) but for some reason they had them on a limited time in-store sale for $499... These will...

Seville UltraHD or NewAge Cabinets? Anyone have impressions on these or others?

Thanks TonkaJoe, I have been leaning towards the Pro 3.0. I love your garage. I was leaning towards doing something similar with the corrugated lower half and shiplap upper half. I am pretty sure I'll pull the trigger on the NewAge (assembly mostly done is a huge sales point) and the majority...

    Spray foam - protecting it

Very True, I believe they are much safer than when they first arrived to the scene.

    Spray foam - protecting it

I couldn't agree more with your sentiment. But unfortunately its code where I live and I fear that Insurance companies love avoiding pay-outs on people who don't meet the minimum code requirements in a fire. When I opted to paint ours it wasn't the flame that concerned me it was the smoke.

May depend on your location, worth a call to your County Building office... But more than likely yes.
