    Paint recommendation for PT lumber

I always thought Kilz was pretty good, compared to Behr or Glidden but obviously I'm not an expert. What would you consider a good sealer/primer? SW is more of a small box store but they're not what they once were, apparently. Honestly I prefer this solution because I already have the...

    Paint recommendation for PT lumber

Background -- we had our covered pressure treated deck painted around 2017. This included both the framing which was unpainted as I recall and the decking which was actually painted with an unknown paint. They used SW SuperDecks and matched the grey color to the house, so it it was a...

    Not finishing shed, big mistake?

Yes it is fairly low pitch, 2:12, due to a few design constraints. I assume you're not talking corrugated, but ribbed metal, like this? Hell, it's actually quite a bit cheaper here than OSB or plywood. Here being HD, 29 gauge - maybe that's too thin...

    Not finishing shed, big mistake?

For an 11' span, how much blocking do you think is necessary? Divide the span in half, maybe thirds? The main reason for the comp roof was to match the existing building and because it gets a ton of wind and sun on that side. This shed will be about the fist thing one sees when pulling into...

    Not finishing shed, big mistake?

Hi all. I've been planning to build another lean to shed (from an earlier thread) similar to the one below. Only the new one will have a composition roof on it instead of Suntuf. The PT 2x6 span will be longer (11') and the spacing closer together (12"). The whole thing will be about...

    Post bases, what's your preference?

Thanks for the advice everyone. I did find some local code info but not nearly as detailed as the one above. But I was also thinking the PBS looked good. It has some extra support for uplift too. Firebrick43's suggestions made me think maybe I don't overbuild as much as I thought. That is...

    Post bases, what's your preference?

I won't deny that I'm overthinking it, that's what I tend to do. But I'm not sure how you can say there will be no wind load. My battered Costco carports beg to differ. I'm thinking of the upward load when the wind that whips through here catches the roof like a sail (or just creates lift)...

    Post bases, what's your preference?

Yes I plan to put wood braces on the corners at least. Also not fully drawn is the decking and composite roof I plan to add. That should increase the stiffness against shear.

    Post bases, what's your preference?

Tarmy, any tips on setting it? Did you place it first & then pour the concrete? Or the other way around? Any suggestions on minimizing voids in the concrete & things like that? The Simpson instructions are pretty vague.

    Post bases, what's your preference?

Shed will be about 12x20. I attached a drawing. There is no floor. It's more of a carport/storage area than a walled shed. But I planned to dig holes for the posts and set in concrete to avoid frost heave and account for wind load. This will sit on a bit of a rise facing down hill on the...

    Post bases, what's your preference?

I'm working on a lean to shed project. Posts/anchors will be placed in new concrete (on a gravel pad) that I would likely be pouring. I was leaning towards one of the StrongTie cast in place options like the ones below. But there are also J bolts and L bolts which would then be attached to a...

Is it worth building now? Construction materials cost.

I was just at a HD in Oregon the other day and their OSB sheathing was over $50! I about had a heart attack as I'm getting ready to build a shed myself. Maybe.

    Joist calculators WTF?

Ah, that sounds like a bug. I'm not going to bother contacting the orgs so they can just point fingers at each other or challenge me to prove them wrong. What's scary is that one of these is wrong, and people are designing things based on wrong data. I'd just like to find a reliable...

    Joist calculators WTF?

Come on, 13' 10" vs 15' 11" is not "rounding".

    Joist calculators WTF?

Again, the point was... why are two different calculators giving very different answers with the same exact (almost) input??? Here is another pair of screenshots with the same exact values.
