Looks like having multiple ground/neutral bonds in a power system can cause multiple current loops where current could be carried on a ground wire instead of the neutral, hence why you remove the bonding screw in a subpanel being fed by a bonded main panel.
This PDF explains it pretty well...
10-4 thanks guys, I'll probably just go with the interlock breaker route and also unbond the neutral in the generator, thanks for the tips! That soft starter is a small investment to be able to run the central AC, might have to splurge on something like that!
Hey gents,
I live in south Louisiana and just went through hurricane Delta, I ended up buying a 7500 watt (9000 surge) portable generator and just used extension cords to power the essentials in the house until commercial power came back on. The generator has a 50 amp plug (14-50R style) and I...
Here's an update for you guys, I ended up building a studded plywood wall, priming and painting the wall, then making some 2x4 shelves that are attached to the wall.
Rented a Hilti powder actuated nail gun, that sucker was a blast to use (literally). Framed the wall with 2x4s on 24" centers...
I like your setup, very clean. Can you post some close ups of the top shelf storage? I'd also like to set something up like that on the back wall for taller items that are rarely used.
Thanks for the feedback guys, good ideas.
Thanks for the feedback guys, looks like pallet racks are probably the easiest and most sturdy option available without much headache.
The building is from Mueller Buildings they were very easy to work with, many building options to chose from. Mine was a "custom" build since I wanted a 16x8...
Hey guys,
I've got a 24W x 30L building that I need to add storage and organization to, I have a few ideas rolling around but wanted to hear your ideas and experiences.
Basically I need to add hanging storage and shelves to get stuff up off the floor until I have time to get additional...
I just hooked up WiFi in my shop, I used a TP-Link powerline wifi extender...so far it works well. Had a few issues where I could get an IP address but couldn't get to the internet. Unplugged it and replugged and worked fine again. Also had an issue with finding the "sweetspot" plug, some...
This is a greaves insulated splice, model usad2-2, and they are dual rated cu9al. I've also put aluminum oxide inhibitor on the stripped conductors as extra insurance.
The connectors come pre-filled with their own oxide-inhibitor, and when you back out the lug to insert the wire, I'm guessing...
Not sure what was up the other night...just trying to do it by the book guys. Didn't intend to get everyone's ******* in a knot. Just wanted to know if there were torque differences between copper and aluminum.
All I have left to do on the feed is connect the wires in the jbox, then connect...
Anyway back the f on topic... I went out and retested with my torque wrench and got better results tonight. I'll upload some pics of the wire at 100 and 130 inch pounds. The lug mashed into the two top strands but didn't break through. The remaining strands were undamaged so it looks good to...
Will have to check on that. Electrician mounted the box and ran the wire from the main panel to the jbox. The wire does have a thick insulation encasing the group of wires along with the individual conductor insulation.
Not sure why the electrician added 4 screws inside of the box, I can...
Yes I'm sure I had it set to inch-pounds. Even at 80 inch-pounds the lug starts to mash into the conductor.
I'm using the #2 connector for the two hots, and the #4 connector for the neutral and ground.
Hey guys I'm getting the 2-2-4-6 mobile home feeder wired up to my shop, I have a 6x6 junction box attached to the house that I'm using to splice the copper conductors from my main panel to the aluminum MHF feeding the shop.
I'm using a greaves insulated connector USAD2-2 for the connections...
