    WaterLine to Workshop

Why copper? I'd use PEX. If you don't want to dig down too far you can run a heated insulated PEX line that depending on winter temps is pretty economical to operate

    Anyone with a 25x35 garage?

I have a 25' X 25' currently with an 8' X 18' double door. I'm adding on to this to make it a 25' X 37' garage. I'm adding an 8' X 9' wide door for the single bay add on and will put a four post lift in it for working on my sports car. I'm adding in floor heat when I repour the floor. If you can...

    Roof Ventilation Question

Ridge vents don't function when they are covered by snow. I know, I have them on my house and when it is covered with a foot of snow, the only venting comes from the soffits to the gable end passive vents.

Anyone decided against radiant then regretted it?

Interesting. We had our house energy assessed by our local hydro (gas/electric) supplier when we were renovating with Windows, insulation, etc. We got heat loss numbers (as a percentage of total heat loss) for all areas of the house. I had thought the windows would be the greatest source of heat...

    Help! Setting slope for slab?

My current garage floor is sloped at a bit more than 2% giving me a bit over 5" on 24'. I'm pouring a new floor and will use a 1% slope. I'd like some drainage to the slot drain but with in floor heat I doubt much melt will make it to the drain. I'll wash the floor every couple of weeks to keep...

4 post lift. Atlas Garage Pro 8000 vs 408-SL?

The only advantage is you won't have to run another line to the garage to service a 220V. Other than that, 220V is the way to go.

    MaxJax Installed!

Do you do much work under the car reaching up? I'm curious to know from people who use these lifts whether it is an easy to work sitting down and reaching up as it is while standing? I have some transmission and half shaft work to do under my 1976 Triumph TR6 and I'm getting too old to roll...

    Basement garage build

Re: Basement garaga build You need a proper ventilation system for this setup or you'll not only have a a fire/explosion risk in the basement but a potentially dangerous air quality issue in the house.

Rafters set on top of plywood?

Same in my area. Code requires 18" heel height to allow for insulation over the top plate and adequate space for passive ventilation from the soffit.

Add a Single or Start From Scratch?

Just have to firm up the quotes. We're going to get an architect to draw it up and a structural engineer to advise on piling and tie in details. We plan to do in floor heat but have to make sure our boiler has the capacity otherwise we might hang a gas furnace if that is more economical.

Add a Single or Start From Scratch?

Thanks for the posts. I heard back from the building mover. The garage will be lifted and moved 6' to the left and blocked in place so floor work can be done. Then we'll chop out the floor, add piles and pour a new floor and drain and set the 2 car down on a 1' grade beam. Then we'll tie in an...

4 post Lift & Gantry Beam

Wouldn't it be better to just build the engine lift into the ceiling of the garage? Why does it have to be mounted to the hoist?

4 post Lift & Gantry Beam

You shouldn't ask for advice for this here. If I were you I'd send the same question to the lift manufacturer. Just because someone here may have done it doesn't mean it is safe or safe for your lift.

Add a Single or Start From Scratch?

I don't have a drone so its hard to show what the layout is. The breezeway attaches to our house at the back door. As you are facing the house (standing in the breezeway), to the left is a bathroom window. To the right is a double patio door in the kitchen, so I can't increase the size of the...
