What should I expect to pay for a 30X40 concrete pad wtih 12" turn down on the perimeter?

I calculated at 5" with fiberglass rather than 6" Guessing that is where the difference is but yeah, somewhere just north of 20yds. I believe "Alaskan slabs" are also called "frost protected shallow foundations" and usually employ a foam thermal break around the perimeter. As our frost line...

    24 x 36 Garage in Forest, VA.

German, I am near you. Just starting on my build. Do you mind me asking who you got to do your concrete slab and if you were pleased with quality/price of the work? I am currently shopping concrete contractors.

Timber frame to dimensional lumber gable roof

Ok, so there are some structural analysis issues. What you are planning is technically considered post and beam construction, not timberframing. Timberframing uses wood joinery and dowels or "trunnels" to hold everything in place. Post and beam uses steel plates and through bolts. In a true...

What should I expect to pay for a 30X40 concrete pad wtih 12" turn down on the perimeter?

I'm caIculating it being right at about 20yds total needed. Just called the local concrete supplier. 4500psi mix with added fiberglass is $218.00 per yard. Plus 25$ fuel surcharge per 10yd load. (x2 loads) Looking at roughly $4,500.00 for the concrete in my local market.

And so it begins: New Shop/Garage/Boat Shop build

I think we may have been twins in a previous life or at least brothers from another mother. In 2011 I started building a garage after finishing an ICF house. The idea was that after the garage was built, I would restore a car. The car deal fell through and I realized my real passion was...

What should I expect to pay for a 30X40 concrete pad wtih 12" turn down on the perimeter?

I purchased a 30X38 Quonset hut to use as a boat and tractor storage building. I have not had any concrete poured since 2011 and the estimates I am getting now are a bit shocking and seem out of line with national averages per google. Just curious what others are seeing and paying. I am in...

Timber frame to dimensional lumber gable roof

A few questions... The drawing you show is different structurally from the pictures of the work that you have done so far. The biggest difference being that the timberframe structure shown is a self supporting and freestanding timberframe structure, while what you show in the construction...

    Multiple doors and headers

Here is the cost comparison with the steel beam. 1-16"X 1-3/4" X 30' LVL is $178.20 at Menards. I would need 4 for a total cost of $712.80. The calcs are readily accepted by my LAHJ at 31,650lbs for 16' span for this using 2 LVLS and there are no special considerations needed for attachment...

    Need concrete densifier/sealer recommendations

I just finished pouring my 26X34 concrete slab last Fri. It is a 3500 psi hard troweled finish with 1/2" rebar on 2x2 grid with radiant heat tubing over 1-1/2 EPS. I kept it covered with polyethylene tarp and allowed the moisture to go out slowly. I am now getting ready to frame up the walls...

    Multiple doors and headers

Just to clarify, I don't intend for the LVLs to support the load of the entire 28' span. The 2 foot wide section of wall under the level and between the 16' and 10' doors will be considered load bearing. Any removal or modification would be temporary and alternative support measures taken...

    Multiple doors and headers

I just finished pouring the concrete for my new garage Fri. and I'm getting ready to buy the lumber. The garage is a 26 X 34 with 10' walls/ceiling height and attic trusses to allow a 15'X34' bonus room/man cave over top at 40Psf. The design is a drive thru style garage with doors on both...
