    Orphan Compressor

Good idea, Bill. Nothing of note under the cover except a starting capacitor. It appears "Qualified" in Corona is still in business, so I'll call Monday, though it's a long-shot. I'll report back. I finally figured out how to use my clamp ammeter! I measured draw at 22 amps, so it's likely a...

    Orphan Compressor

Thanks, so maybe it's 3HP? 2HP? But, absent any markings on an electric motor, how do you determine HP and/or Amp draw? Also, absent markings on the compressor head, how can you determine CFM? I guess it's all academic. If it runs and doesn't trip a breaker and provides sufficient air for my...

    Orphan Compressor

I picked up a compressor this afternoon. Sticker says "Astro Air", which is a dead-end. There are no casting marks or legible ID plates. It's been painted blue, so dunno original color. I was told it's a 5hp, 120v motor, and I'm hoping it looks familiar to someone. It looks very similar to my...

My garage was butchered. Fix it or leave it alone?

Thanks again for the comments. Here's what I know. The original house was 3 bd 1 ba, built in 1952, with a 3-car garage behind. There was a remodel in 1974, where they added a large master bedroom with on-suite bathroom, and probably added the "back" garage at that time. I can't explain it well...

My garage was butchered. Fix it or leave it alone?

Yes, 100% agree with the consensus. I intentionally kept the first "truss" out of scope, to avoid confusion. Someone pounded together a bunch of 2 x 6s that do absolutely nothing aesthetically or structurally. It's an abomination. I will remove it as well as any unnecessary bits left over from...

My garage was butchered. Fix it or leave it alone?

I appreciate all the knowledgeable input. I will definitely get it fixed. I just updated my profile - I'm in Riverside, CA, so no snow worries.

My garage was butchered. Fix it or leave it alone?

I've got the "prior owner" blues. I bought a house recently with an extra 480 sq ft garage in back. Super excited! The garage is 24' wide x 20' deep. The roof is supported by rafters every 2'. Every 4' is a truss-like structure to add rigidity. The "ceiling joists" are built up from two 2 x 6s...

What have you got? I have a few different designs, but all function fine.

    2021 Garage Sale Thread

I was walking the dogs and stopped at a yard sale a couple of weeks ago. I don't need another jack, but this one looked old-school. It worked good and the price was $20, so I bought it. I have since bought and installed a seal kit (ram seal was leaking), and now it runs smooth and dry.

I picked this up at an estate sale for $1. Probably a retirement gift for Dr. Taylor.

    2020 Garage Sale Thread

I stopped by an estate sale on Sunday, and spied a drywall taping knife, which I need for a bathroom remodel, and got to looking around. Sunday was "fill a bag for $10" day, so I started grabbing stuff. Here's what I came up with: Drywall taping knife Food scale Safety glasses Graduated punch...

CL find for someone - vintage radial drill

I'm just passing this along. There's a vintage JC Penney (re-badged Delta) benchtop radial drill for sale in Moreno Valley (Inland Empire, CA). Asking $80, that's pretty cheap for a radial drill. https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/tls/d/moreno-valley-wood-working-tools/6921105418.html Dave

    Help with Italian wrenches (LARIO)

Does anyone have or collect Lario wrenches? I'm trying to build a set, and am missing the 8-9mm open-end wrench. I have the 6-7mm, but it's pretty corroded.
