Hanging Overhead Storage: Screw or Nail?

+20 on the Torx / Impact driver. I'm surprised it took 12 posts to get to that!

    Insulating a Roof Truss System

I have a scissor truss roof system and the roof itself is fully finished with vapor barriers, vents, roofing, etc. Located in upstate, NY and subject to significant temperature and humidity fluctuations. After the heater (only to be used on demand) is installed, we will be insulating the...

Compressor Air: When to use a Filter-Regulator-LUBRICATOR???

Larry G, Thank you for your response. My runs are not long (45' maximum) but what you said makes sense. What is your thought of 1 to 2 drops of air tool oil dripped into the air input hole of an air tool? Thank you in advance. Jeremy

Compressor Air: When to use a Filter-Regulator-LUBRICATOR???

Compressor Air: When to use a Filter-Regulator-LUBRICATOR??? I am currently using rubber air hoses that are hanging on hooks but I will soon be going to the Rapidair 3/4" FASTPIPE system. I will NOT be sandblasting. The air is used for air tools, lift safety locks and a rolling jack. I...

Compressor Choice: Saylor-Beall versus Champion (5hp 80gal compressor)

As a follow-up, I contacted both Saylor-Beall and Champion and oddly enough, only SB responded so I purchased the SB unit. It will hopefully be connected to electricity in the next week.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a "French Cleat?"

    Contractor bait and switch???

It sounds like you may be lined up for one headache after another but $22k for a garage that size is a fraction of what we're spending in NY. What was the second place estimate? That might tell you to eat the $3k or 50% of the $3k or to move on.

Compressor Choice: Saylor-Beall versus Champion (5hp 80gal compressor)

Thank you for all of the responses. Maybe SB is a little more favored so far? Hip2u77 mentioned increasing the motor size which should be an important factor for some. In my case, this compressor is most likely way more than needed to start with. PT Doc asked about usage. For me, it is...

Compressor Choice: Saylor-Beall versus Champion (5hp 80gal compressor)

I'm looking at purchasing a *new* 5hp, 80 gallon, vertical, 2 stage compressor that delivers ~ 17.3 CFM @ 175 PSI for a home shop/hobbyist type usage. This is probably a little more than I need but I would rather have a unit that lasts for 30 years with proper maintenance. I've seen similar...

Team Truett, To follow-up, we have a home in the mid Hudson Valley and we are about to break ground on a 24' deep, 36' wide garage (2 bays & workshop/loft) with a 12x12 pitch roof. We are REQUIRED to have stamped plans for the building permit process. We paid $1,500 for the plans. Could we...

COST ($$) Difference between Truss & Dimensional Lumber Roof System

Just to add a bit... 2/3 (work shop and 1 bay) will have attic above so therefore an "attic truss" system. the 3rd section will have a lift so therefore a "scissor truss" system for that 3rd. STORAGE ONLY in the attic area. No living at all. Dimensional Lumber: Structural ridge beam...

COST ($$) Difference between Truss & Dimensional Lumber Roof System

Footprint: 36' wide (2 bays & workshop), 24' deep footprint. Roof: 12'x12' pitch 1st Floor Height: 10' Location: Hudson Valley, NY State Does anyone have a rough cost savings idea when using a truss system instead of dimensional lumber to build the roof system? All work would be highered...

What did you pay for stamped plans? Detached garage build

Team Truett, Is the architect that is charging $2,500 in the mid Hudson Valley or in Ohio? The reason that I ask is the we will be building a 24'x32' garage in the hudson valley and I will need some drawings/stamp (required) for our building department. Thank you in advance.
