    Work supplied tools

I often have that problem (even though I own my own tools) when using friends' tools on their stuff. Often it is the LACK of tools though, not the lack of quality.

    Gray Tools

http://www.thetoolstore.ca/brands.asp?Gray-Tools_345_ Just bought something from them, I bet they ship to US. Went on grays website and it did not show any US distributors.

Opinions on 3/8 drive Dewalt Cordless impacts

I use the dewalt 18v daily for work as an auto tech. I can usually stuff it wherever I need to. It easily tackles 8 and 10mm bolts. I actually overtorqued a bolt with an 80 lb spec when I first got it. It probably has enough guts to remove wheel nuts @ about 100 lbs if they arent seized on, but...

    Gray tools pry bars

Anyone have any experience with these lady slipper pry bars? What is the quality like compared to snap on? This is something that will get used a multiple times a week professionally, but I dont see myself breaking them. http://www.thetoolstore.ca/viewItem.asp?idProduct=11400 Thanks!

BendPak Lift is IN! Corvette's too low to drive on lift.

2x4s are what we use daily at work for this type of thing. It can be tedious but it works. 2 people guide the driver in, one in front and one watching the side to ensure no scraping. You could get some 2x10s cut to the perfect length for this though, and guide yourself by hanging your head out...

    Snap On Hammer

Nothing special compared to any other name brand hammer, other than the truck that brings it to you and warranties it. I like them, but the price keeps me away. Their soft face deadblows are my favourite, I have no problem spending on those, well worth IMO. I think they are the same as trusty...

    Wiha

I recommend this set: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000T9W4TC/?tag=atomicindus08-20 ...But seriously, what exactly are you doing with them? What do you need from a screwdriver set? Buy whichever set meets your needs.

    My new favorite locking pliers!

I do like those, and they do have their place. I have not tried this specific brand though, and the issue I was having is it couldnt grab anything that would compress. Example: 2 pieces of sheet metal with air in between, or a rubber hose. Have these overcome that problem?

What does "GARAGE JOURNAL" mean to you?

I work in the auto industry, but that is not why I am here. I am here for ideas regarding tools, garages, organization etc. As someone wrenching daily I feel I have a bit to add to the discussion at times, but also alot to learn. I dont care for posts about the profession itself and instead...

    tap and die sets

Personally I do not use normal taps and dies for repairing threads any more, they seldom hold the torque after using a normal tap on them. IMO its not good to have one tap do both cutting threads and restoring them.

    tap and die sets

I recommend a thread restoring kit not a tap and die set if you are just chasing threads. This one is exactly the same as the snap on set, which has worked very well for me. Includes that M12x1.25 The thread files are nice for the big stuff (I have cleaned up pipe threads nicely) or oddball...

The Truck Tool Equivalents Thread - Gathering Data

Bought this: http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?P65=&tool=all&item_ID=630634&group_ID=675450&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog Says Ridgid right on it. Equivalent: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000WQYJIG/?tag=atomicindus08-20 Doesent bother me, I can warranty it and I like supporting my driver.

    Modis

The Modis is very good IMO, has a few pros and cons. My snap on guy said the Modis would not be supported as far as software updates go in a while. Having said that he was trying to sell us a new scanner so I would check that info were I looking to buy one. Anyways, I find the Modis to be very...
