Since you said you're in the interior, something other folks here may not be aware of. Do you have any permafrost under or near your slab? Putting heat into an uninsulated slab could be a recipe for disaster.

Any insulated wall or roof (no matter how thick) has a temperature gradient. In cold weather at some point along that gradient you'll reach the dew point. The purpose of a VB is to keep moisture on the warm side of that dew point so it doesn't condense/freeze.

That's something I haven't been able to find good info on - what is the efficiency comparison between ballast and ballast-bypass? Does anyone have hard numbers?
